What is the most significant information I must know about aspirin and codeine?

Use an effective form of birth control, and speak your doctor if you become pregnant during treatment.

Aspirin and codeine can pass into breast milk and may harm a nursing child. The use of codeine by some nursing mothers may lead to life-threatening side effects in the child. You must not breast-feed while you are using aspirin and codeine.

How must I take aspirin and codeine?

• Take exactly as predesigned. Never take aspirin and codeine in larger amounts, or for longer than recommended by your doctor. Follow the directions on your prescription label. Speak your doctor if the medication seems to stop working as well in relieving your pain.

Aspirin and codeine may be taken with food if it upsets your stomach.

• If you need surgery, speak the surgeon onward of time that you are using aspirin and codeine.

• Do not stop using aspirin and codeine suddenly after long-term use, or you could have unpleasant withdrawal symptoms. Ask your doctor how to avoid withdrawal symptoms when you stop using aspirin and codeine.

• Store at room temperature away from moisture, heat, and easy. Hold track of the amount of medication used from every new bottle. Codeine is a drug of abuse and you must be aware if anyone is using your medication improperly or without a prescription.

What happens if I miss a dose?

• Since aspirin and codeine is taken as needed, you may not be on a dosing schedule. If you are taking the medicine regularly, take the missed doze as soon as you remember. If it is nearly time for the following doze, skip the missed doze and wait before your following regularly scheduled doze. Do not use extra medication to create up the missed dose.

What happens if I overdose?

• Search abnormal medical attention or call the Poison Help line at 1-800-222-1222. An overdose of aspirin and codeine can be fatal.

• Overdose symptoms may include extreme dizziness or spinning sensation, sweating, pinpoint pupils, double vision, vomiting, hallucinations, muscle weakness or limp feeling, cool and clammy skin, fainting, weak pulse, seizure (convulsions), blue lips, shallow breathing, or no breathing.

What must I avoid while taking aspirin and codeine?

• This medicine may impair your thinking or reactions. Avoid driving or operating machinery before you know how aspirin and codeine will affect you.

• Ask a doctor or pharmacist till using any another over-the-counter cool, allergy, or pain medication. Aspirin is contained in much combination medicines. Taking determined commodity together can reason you to get too many aspirin. Check the label to see if a medication contains aspirin.

• Avoid taking acetaminophen (Tylenol) or an NSAID while you are taking aspirin and codeine, unless your doctor tells you to. • Avoid drinking alcohol. It may magnify your risk of stomach bleeding while taking aspirin.

What are the possible side effects of aspirin and codeine?

• Get abnormal medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; runny nose, wheezing, difficulty breathing; swelling of your person, lips, tongue, or throat.

Seek abnormal medical attention if a baby taking this medicine has any of the next life-threatening side effects: noisy breathing, sighing, slow breathing with long pauses between breaths; being unusually sleepy or heavy to wake up; blue colored lips.

• Call your doctor at once if you have a serious side effect such as:

· severe stomach pain or constipation, vomiting;

· bloody or tarry stools, coughing up blood or vomit that looks like coffee grounds;

· shallow breathing, quick or slow heartbeat;

· confusion, hallucinations, unusual thoughts or behavior, feeling like you might pass out;

· light bruising or bleeding;

· seizure (convulsions); or

· decreased hearing or ringing in the ears.

• Smaller serious side effects may include:

· mild constipation, nausea;

· heartburn, upset stomach, bloating, gas, diarrhea;

· headache, dizziness, weary feeling; or

· mild itching or rash.

What another drugs will affect aspirin and codeine?

• Till using this medicine, speak your doctor if you regularly use another medicines that create you sleepy or could slow your breathing (such as cool or allergy medication, sedatives, narcotic pain medication, sleeping pills, muscle relaxers, and medication for seizures, depression, or anxiety). They can add to sleepiness caused by aspirin and codeine.

· deferasirox (Exjade);

· leflunomide (Arava);

· methotrexate (Rheumatrex, Trexall);

· sirolimus (Rapamune) or tacrolimus (Prograf);

· an antidepressant, such as bupropion (Wellbutrin, Zyban), citalopram (Celexa), fluoxetine (Prozac), paroxetine (Paxil), sertraline (Zoloft), and others;

· antiviral medicines such as adefovir (Hepsera), cidofovir (Vistide), or tenofovir (Viread, Atripla, Complera, Truvada);

· aspirin or another salicylates, including Kaopectate, Pamprin Cramp Formula, Pepto-Bismol, Tricosal, Trilisate, and others;

· bowel cleansing preparations (Half Lytely, Fleet Prep Kit, Evac-Q-Kwik, GoLytely, Supraprep, and others);

· glaucoma medicine such as acetazolamide (Diamox) or methazolamide (Glauctabs, Neptazane); or

· medicine used to prevent blood clots, such as dalteparin (Fragmin), enoxaparin (Lovenox), fondaparinux (Arixtra), tinzaparin (Innohep), and others.

• This list is not complete and another drugs may interact with aspirin and codeine. Speak your doctor about all medications you use. This includes prescription, over-the-counter, vitamin, and herbal commodity. Do not start a new medicine without telling your doctor.
