Simvastatin and sitagliptin is a combination medication for people with type 2 diabetes who also have tall cholesterol.
You must not use this medication if you have liver malady or severe kidney malady. Do not use this medicine if you are in a state of diabetic ketoacidosis (call your doctor for treatment with insulin).
Do not use this medication if you are pregnant or breast-feeding.
There are much another drugs that must not be used together with simvastatin and sitagliptin. Speak your doctor about all another medicines you use. Do not consume grapefruit commodity while taking this medication.
Call your doctor right away if you have unexplained muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness especially if you also have fever, unusual tiredness, and dark colored urine. Also call your doctor if you have severe pain in your upper stomach spreading to your back.
Simvastatin is an HMG CoA reductase inhibitor, or "statin." Simvastatin reduces levels of "bad" cholesterol (low-density lipoprotein, or LDL) and triglycerides in the blood, while increasing levels of "good" cholesterol (high-density lipoprotein, or HDL).
Sitagliptin is an oral diabetes medication that helps control blood sugar levels. It works by regulating the levels of insulin your body produces after eating.
Simvastatin and sitagliptin is a combination medication for people with type 2 diabetes who also have tall cholesterol or triglycerides (types of fat) in the blood. This medicine is not for treating type 1 diabetes.
Simvastatin and sitagliptin is also used to lower the risk of stroke, heart onslaught, and another heart complications in people with diabetes, coronary heart malady, or another risk factors.
Simvastatin and sitagliptin may also be used for purposes not listed in this medicine guide.
You must not use this medication if you are allergic to simvastatin or sitagliptin, if you have liver malady or severe kidney malady, or if you are pregnant or breast-feeding.

Some medicines can reason unwanted or dangerous effects when used with simvastatin and sitagliptin. Your doctor may need to change your treatment plan if you use any of the next drugs:
· cyclosporine;
· danazol;
· gemfibrozil;
· nefazodone;
· the antibiotics clarithromycin, erythromycin, or telithromycin;
· the antifungal medications itraconazole, ketoconazole, posaconazole, or voriconazole;
· the hepatitis C medications boceprevir or telaprevir; or
· the HIV/AIDS medications atazanavir, darunavir, fosamprenavir, indinavir, nelfinavir, ritonavir, saquinavir, or tipranavir.
Before you start taking simvastatin and sitagliptin, speak your doctor if you are already using any of these another medicines:
· amiodarone or dronedarone;
· amlodipine;
· diltiazem;
· ranolazine; or
· verapamil.
To create certain simvastatin and sitagliptin is safety for you, speak your doctor if you have:
· a history of liver or kidney disease;
· a history of pancreatitis;
· a history of gallstones;
· underactive thyroid; or
· a history of alcoholism.
FDA pregnancy category X. This medicine can harm an unborn child or reason birth defects. Do not take simvastatin and sitagliptin if you are pregnant. Stop taking the medication and speak your doctor right away if you become pregnant. Use effective birth control to avoid pregnancy while you are taking simvastatin and sitagliptin.
It is not known whether this medicine passes into breast milk or if it could harm a nursing child. Do not breast-feed while you are taking simvastatin and sitagliptin.
Do not give this medicine to anyone under 18 years old without medical advice.
Follow all directions on your prescription label. Your doctor may occasionally change your doze to create certain you get the excellent results. Do not take this medication in larger or less amounts or for longer than recommended.
Simvastatin and sitagliptin is generally taken once daily in the evening.
Do not crush, chew, or interrupt the tablet. Swallow it intact.
Your blood sugar will need to be checked often, and you may need another blood trials at your doctor's office.
Check your blood sugar carefully during times of stress, travel, diseases, surgery or medical abnormal, vigorous exercice, or if you drink alcohol or skip meals. These things can affect your glucose levels and your doze needs may also change. Do not change your medicine doze or schedule without your doctor's advice.
Simvastatin and sitagliptin is only part of a complete program of treatment that also includes diet, exercice, weight control, and possibly another medications. Follow your diet, medicine, and exercice routines very closely.
Store at room temperature away from moisture and heat. Hold the bottle tightly closed when not in use.
Take the missed doze as soon as you remember. Skip the missed doze if it is nearly time for your following scheduled doze. Do not take extra medication to create up the missed dose.

Grapefruit and grapefruit juice may interact with simvastatin and lead to potentially dangerous effects. Do not consume grapefruit commodity while taking this medication.
Avoid eating foods that are tall in thick or cholesterol. Simvastatin will not be as effective in lowering your cholesterol if you do not follow a cholesterol-lowering diet plan.
Avoid drinking alcohol. It can lower your blood sugar and may magnify your risk of liver hurt while taking this medicine.
Get abnormal medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficult breathing; swelling of your person, lips, tongue, or throat.

Stop using simvastatin and sitagliptin and call your doctor at once if you have:
· confusion, memory problems;
· swelling, weight gain, urinating smaller than normal or not at all;
· severe pain in your upper stomach spreading to your back, nausea and vomiting, loss of appetite, quick heart course;
· heighten thirst, heighten urination, famine, dry mouth, fruity breath odor, drowsiness, dry skin, blurred vision, weight loss;
· itching, dark urine, clay-colored stools, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes); or
· severe skin reaction -- fever, sore throat, swelling in your person or tongue, burning in your eyes, skin pain, followed by a red or purple skin rash that spreads (especially in the person or upper body) and causes blistering and peeling.
General side effects may include:
· cool symptoms such as stuffy nose, sneezing, sore throat;
· constipation, mild stomach pain, mild nausea;
· dizziness, tingly feeling;
· depression, memory problems, sleep problems (insomnia);
· headache, joint pain; or
· trouble having an erection.

Speak your doctor about all medicines you use, and those you start or stop using during your treatment with simvastatin and sitagliptin, especially:
· colchicine;
· digoxin, digitalis;
· a blood thinner such as warfarin, Coumadin;
· fenofibric acid or fenofibrate;
· medicines that contain niacin; or
· any another "statin" medicine such as atorvastatin, fluvastatin, lovastatin, pitavastatin, pravastatin, rosuvastatin, or another medicine that contains simvastatin.
Although sitagliptin is not as likely to reason hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) as some another oral diabetes medications, speak your doctor if you are taking any another drugs that can potentially lower blood sugar, such as:
· probenecid;
· aspirin or another salicylates (including Pepto-Bismol);
· sulfa drugs (Bactrim, Septra, Sulfatrim, SMX-TMP, and others);
· a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI);
· a beta-blocker; or
· insulin, or an oral diabetes medicine such as glipizide, glimepiride, glyburide, and others.
These lists are not complete and much another medicines can magnify or decrease the effects of simvastatin and sitagliptin on lowering your blood sugar. This includes prescription and over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal commodity. Give a list of all your medicines to any healthcare provider who treats you.
