What is the most significant information I must know about amlodipine?

• Till taking amlodipine, speak your doctor if you have congestive heart failure or liver disease.

• Drinking alcohol can further lower your blood pressure and may magnify determined side effects of amlodipine.

• If you are being treated for tall blood pressure, hold using this medicine even if you feel well. Tall blood pressure often has no symptoms. You may need to use blood pressure medicine for the rest of your life.

• Amlodipine is only part of a complete program of treatment that may also include diet, exercice, weight control, and another medications. Follow your diet, medicine, and exercice routines very closely.

• Speak your doctor about all another heart or blood pressure medications you are taking.

• Your chest pain may become worse when you first start taking amlodipine or when your doze is heighten. Call your doctor if your chest pain is severe or ongoing.

What is amlodipine?

• Amlodipine is in a group of drugs called calcium channel blockers. Amlodipine relaxes (widens) blood vessels and improves blood flow.

• Amlodipine is used to treat tall blood pressure (hypertension) or chest pain (angina) and another conditions caused by coronary artery malady. This medicine is for use in adults and children who are at least 6 years old.

• Amlodipine may also be used for purposes not listed in this medicine guide.

What must I discuss with my healthcare provider till taking amlodipine?

• You must not take this medicine if you are allergic to amlodipine.

• To create certain you can safely take amlodipine, speak your doctor if you have any of these another conditions:

· a heart valve problem called aortic stenosis;

· congestive heart failure; or

· liver disease.

• If you are also taking a beta-blocker drug (such as Betapace, Blocadren, Corgard, Coreg, Inderal, InnoPran, Lopressor, Normodyne, Tenoretic, Tenormin, Toprol, Trandate, Zebeta, and others) do not suddenly stop using the beta-blocker without first talking to your doctor. You may need to use smaller and smaller till you stop the medicine completely. Stopping a beta-blocker too quickly can reason serious heart problems that will not be prevented by amlodipine.

• FDA pregnancy category C. It is not known whether amlodipine will harm an unborn child. Speak your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant while using this medication.

• It is not known whether amlodipine passes into breast milk or if it could harm a nursing child. You must not breast-feed while you are taking amlodipine.

How must I take amlodipine?

• Take exactly as predesigned by your doctor. Do not take in larger or less amounts or for longer than recommended. Follow the directions on your prescription label.

• Amlodipine is generally taken once daily. Your doctor may occasionally change your doze to create certain you get the excellent results.

• Your chest pain may become worse when you first start taking amlodipine or when your doze is heighten. Call your doctor if your chest pain is severe or ongoing.

• Store at room temperature away from moisture, heat, and light.

What happens if I miss a dose?

• Take the missed doze as soon as you remember. Skip the missed doze if it is nearly time for your following scheduled doze. Do not take extra medication to create up the missed dose.

What happens if I overdose?

• Search abnormal medical attention or call the Poison Help line at 1-800-222-1222.

• Overdose symptoms may include rapid heartbeats, severe dizziness, and fainting.

What must I avoid while taking amlodipine?

• Avoid getting up too quick from a sitting or lying position, or you may feel dizzy. Get up slowly and steady yourself to prevent a fall.

• Drinking alcohol can further lower your blood pressure and may magnify determined side effects of amlodipine.

What are the possible side effects of amlodipine?

• Get abnormal medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your person, lips, tongue, or throat.

• Call your doctor at once if you have a serious side effect such as:

· feeling like you might pass out;

· swelling in your hands, ankles, or feet;

· pounding heartbeats or fluttering in your chest; or

· chest pain or hard feeling, pain spreading to the hand or shoulder, nausea, sweating, common ill feeling.

• Smaller serious side effects may include:

· headache;

· dizziness, drowsiness;

· weary feeling;

· stomach pain; or

· flushing (warmth, redness, or tingly feeling).

What another drugs will affect amlodipine?

• Speak your doctor about all another medicines you use, especially:

· simvastatin (Zocor, Simcor, Vytorin); or

· any another heart or blood pressure medications.

• This list is not complete and another drugs may interact with amlodipine. Speak your doctor about all medications you use. This includes prescription, over-the-counter, vitamin, and herbal commodity. Do not start a new medicine without telling your doctor.
