What is the most significant information I must know about etravirine?

• In rare cases, etravirine can reason a condition that results in the breakdown of skeletal muscle tissue, leading to kidney failure. Call your doctor right away if you have unexplained muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness especially if you also have fever, unusual tiredness, and dark colored urine.

What is etravirine?

• Etravirine is an antiviral medicine that prevents human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) cells from multiplying in your body.

• Etravirine is used with another medications to treat HIV in adults and children who are at least 6 years old. HIV causes the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). Etravirine is not a cure for HIV or AIDS.

• Etravirine may also be used for purposes not listed in this medicine guide.

What must I discuss with my healthcare provider till taking etravirine?

• You must not take etravirine if you are allergic to it. To create certain you can safely take etravirine, speak your doctor if you have any liver malady, including hepatitis B or C.

• Etravirine should be taken in combination with another HIV medications. However, there are determined combinations of medicines that must not be used together with etravirine. Follow your doctor's dosing instructions very carefully.

• You Must NOT take etravirine together with:

· delavirdine;

· efavirenz;

· nevirapine;

· rifabutin, rifapentine, rifampin;

· rilpivirine;

· St. John's wort;

· ritonavir when given with atazanavir, fosamprenavir, or tipranavir;

· ritonavir in doses of more than 600 milligrams twice daily; or

· seizure medications--carbamazepine, phenytoin, phenobarbital.

• You Should take etravirine together with ritonavir if you are also taking:

· indinavir; or

· nelfinavir.

• FDA pregnancy category B. Speak your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant during treatment. HIV can be passed to your child if you are not properly treated during pregnancy. Take all of your HIV medicines as directed to control your infection.

• If you are pregnant, your name may be listed on a pregnancy registry. This is to track the outcome of the pregnancy and to estimate any effects of etravirine on the baby.

• Women with HIV or AIDS must not breast-feed a child. Even if your child is born without HIV, the virus may be passed to the child in your breast milk.

How must I take etravirine?

• Follow all directions on your prescription label. Do not take this medication in larger or less amounts or for longer than recommended. Etravirine should be taken in combination with another HIV medications. Follow your doctor's dosing instructions very carefully.

• If a baby is taking this medicine, speak your doctor if the baby has any changes in weight. Etravirine doses are based on weight in children.

• Etravirine works excellent if you take it after a meal. Do not take it on an empty stomach.

• Do not crush, chew, or interrupt an etravirine tablet. Swallow it intact with liquid such as water.

• If you can't swallow an etravirine tablet intact, seat it into a glass of water and let the tablet to disperse in the liquid. The tablet will not dissolve completely. Drink this mixture right away. To create certain you get the entire doze, add a few more liquid to the same glass, swirl gently and drink right away.

• While using etravirine, you may need frequent blood trials at your doctor's office.

• Use all medications as directed by your doctor. Read the medicine manual or patient instructions provided with every medicine. Do not change your doses or medicine schedule without your doctor's advice. Each face with HIV or AIDS must stay under the care of a doctor.

• Store at room temperature away from moisture and heat. Hold the tablets in their original container.

What happens if I miss a dose?

• If you are smaller than 6 hours late in taking your medication, take the missed doze after your following meal. Then return to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take extra medication to create up the missed dose.

What happens if I overdose?

• Search abnormal medical attention or call the Poison Help line at 1-800-222-1222.

What must I avoid while taking etravirine?

• Taking this medicine will not prevent you from passing HIV to another people. Do not have unprotected sex or share razors or toothbrushes. Conversation with your doctor about safety ways to prevent HIV transmission during sex. Sharing drug or medication needles is never safety, even for a healthy person.

What are the possible side effects of etravirine?

• Get abnormal medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficult breathing; swelling of your person, lips, tongue, or throat.

• Stop using etravirine and call your doctor at once if you have:

· swelling, rapid weight gain, few or no urinating;

· confusion, seizure;

· nausea, upper stomach pain, loss of appetite, dark urine, clay-colored stools, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes);

· the first sign of any type of skin rash, no matter how mild;

· severe skin reaction -- fever, sore throat, swelling in your person or tongue, burning in your eyes, skin pain, followed by a red or purple skin rash that spreads (especially in the person or upper body) and causes blistering and peeling.

• Etravirine may magnify your risk of determined infections or autoimmune disorders by changing the way your immune system works. Symptoms may occur weeks or months after you start treatment with etravirine. Speak your doctor if you have:

· signs of a new infection--fever, night sweats, swollen glands, mouth sores, diarrhea, stomach pain, weight loss;

· chest pain (especially when you breathe), dry cough, wheezing, feeling short of breath;

· cool sores, sores on your genital or anal area;

· rapid heart course, feeling anxious or irritable, weakness or prickly feeling, problems with balance or eye movement;

· trouble speaking or swallowing, severe lower back pain, loss of bladder or bowel control; or

· swelling in your neck or throat (enlarged thyroid), menstrual changes, impotence, loss of interest in sex.

• General side effects may include:

· upset stomach, constipation, heartburn, dry mouth;

· numbness or tingly feeling in your hands or feet;

· blurred vision, dizziness, drowsiness, unusual dreams; or

· changes in the shape or location of body thick (especially in your arms, legs, person, neck, breasts, and waist).

What another drugs will affect etravirine?

• There are much another medicines that can interact with etravirine, or create it smaller effective. Not all possible interactions are listed here. Speak your doctor about all your medications and any you start or stop using during treatment with etravirine, especially:

· artemether and lumefantrine;

· a blood thinner (warfarin, Coumadin);

· clarithromycin;

· clopidogrel;

· dexamethasone;

· diazepam;

· maraviroc;

· telaprevir;

· an antifungal medicine--fluconazole, itraconazole, ketoconazole, posaconazole, voriconazole;

· cholesterol lowering medication--atorvastatin, fluvastatin, lovastatin, pravastatin, rosuvastatin, simvastatin;

· heart rhythm medication--amiodarone, digoxin, disopyramide, flecainide, mexiletine, propafenone, quinidine;

· medication for erectile dysfunction or pulmonary arterial hypertension--avanafil, sildenafil, tadalafil, vardenafil;

· medicines to prevent organ transplant rejection--cyclosporine, sirolimus, tacrolimus; or

· narcotic medication--buprenorphine, methadone.
