What is the most significant information I must know about trandolapril?

• Trandolapril is used to treat tall blood pressure (hypertension), and to improve survival after a heart attack.

• Do not use if you are pregnant. Stop using and speak your doctor right away if you become pregnant.

• You must not use trandolapril if you have ever had angioedema.

• If you have diabetes or kidney disease, you may not be able to take trandolapril if you are taking medicine that contains aliskiren. Speak your doctor about all medicines you use.

• Trandolapril can reason kidney problems. Call your doctor at once if you have swelling, rapid weight gain, few or no urinating, or if you feel short of breath.

• Trandolapril can affect your heart or your electrolyte levels. Call your doctor if you have chest pain, pounding heartbeats or fluttering in your chest, a slow heart course or weak pulse, a tingly feeling, muscle weakness, or muscle tightness or contraction.

What is trandolapril?

• Trandolapril is an ACE inhibitor. ACE stands for angiotensin converting enzyme.

• Trandolapril is used to treat tall blood pressure (hypertension), and to improve survival after a heart attack.

• Trandolapril may also be used for purposes not listed in this medicine guide.

What must I discuss with my healthcare provider till taking trandolapril?

• You must not use trandolapril if you have ever had angioedema, or if you are allergic to trandolapril or to any another ACE inhibitor (benazepril, captopril, enalapril, fosinopril, lisinopril, moexipril, perindopril, quinapril, ramipril).

• If you have diabetes or kidney disease, you may not be able to take trandolapril if you are also taking a blood pressure medicine that contains aliskiren (Amturnide, Tekturna, Tekamlo, or Valturna).

• To create certain trandolapril is safety for you, speak your doctor if you have:

· kidney malady (or if you are on dialysis);

· liver disease;

· heart malady or congestive heart failure;

· diabetes; or

· a connective tissue malady such as Marfan syndrome, Sjogren's syndrome, lupus, scleroderma, or rheumatoid arthritis.

• FDA pregnancy category D. Do not use if you are pregnant. Stop using and speak your doctor right away if you become pregnant. Trandolapril can reason injury or death to the unborn child if you take the medication during your second or third trimester. Use effective birth control.

• Trandolapril can pass into breast milk and may harm a nursing child. You must not breast-feed while you are using trandolapril.

How must I take trandolapril?

• Follow all directions on your prescription label. Your doctor may occasionally change your doze to create certain you get the excellent results. Do not take this medication in larger or less amounts or for longer than recommended.

• Trandolapril can be taken with or without food.

• You may have very low blood pressure while taking this medicine. Call your doctor if you are sick with vomiting or diarrhea, or if you are sweating more than normal.

• Your blood pressure will need to be checked often. Your kidney or liver function may also need to be tested.

• If you need surgery, speak the surgeon onward of time that you are using trandolapril.

• If you are being treated for tall blood pressure, keep using this medicine even if you feel well. Tall blood pressure often has no symptoms. You may need to use blood pressure medicine for the rest of your life.

• Store at room temperature away from moisture and heat.

What happens if I miss a dose?

• Take the missed doze as soon as you remember. Skip the missed doze if it is nearly time for your following scheduled doze. Do not take extra medication to create up the missed dose.

What happens if I overdose?

• Search abnormal medical attention or call the Poison Help line at 1-800-222-1222.

What must I avoid while taking trandolapril?

• Avoid drinking alcohol. It can further lower your blood pressure and may magnify some of the side effects of trandolapril.

• Do not use salt substitutes or potassium supplements while taking trandolapril, unless your doctor has told you to.

What are the possible side effects of trandolapril?

• Get abnormal medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficult breathing; swelling of your person, lips, tongue, or throat. You may be more likely to have an allergic reaction if you are African-American.

• Call your doctor at once if you have:

· a light-headed feeling, like you might pass out;

· few or no urinating;

· swelling, weight gain, feeling short of breath;

· chest pain, pounding heartbeats or fluttering in your chest;

· fever, chills, body aches, flu symptoms;

· light bruising, unusual bleeding (nose, mouth, vagina, or rectum), purple or red pinpoint spots under your skin;

· tall potassium (slow heart course, weak pulse, muscle weakness, tingly feeling); or

· low calcium (numbness or tingly feeling near your mouth, quick or slow heart course, muscle tightness or contraction, overactive reflexes).

• General side effects may include:

· cool symptoms such as stuffy nose, sneezing, sore throat;

· cough;

· muscle pain;

· dizziness, drowsiness, headache;

· sleep problems (insomnia);

· upset stomach, diarrhea, constipation; or

· mild skin itching or rash.

What another drugs will affect trandolapril?

• Speak your doctor about all medicines you use, and those you start or stop using during your treatment with trandolapril, especially:

· gold injections to treat arthritis;

· insulin or oral diabetes medications;

· lithium;

· a diuretic or "water pill"; or

· NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs)--ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin), naproxen (Aleve), celecoxib, diclofenac, indomethacin, meloxicam, and others.
