Do not use if you are pregnant. Stop using and speak your doctor right away if you become pregnant.
You must not use enalapril if you have ever had angioedema.
If you have diabetes or kidney disease, you may not be able to take enalapril if you are taking medicine that contains aliskiren. Speak your doctor about all medicines you use.
Enalapril can reason kidney problems. Call your doctor at once if you have swelling, rapid weight gain, few or no urinating, or if you feel short of breath.
Enalapril can affect your heart or your electrolyte levels. Call your doctor if you have chest pain, pounding heartbeats or fluttering in your chest, a slow heart course or weak pulse, a tingly feeling, muscle weakness, or muscle tightness or contraction.
Enalapril is an ACE inhibitor. ACE stands for angiotensin converting enzyme.
Enalapril is used to treat tall blood pressure (hypertension) and congestive heart failure.
Enalapril is also used to treat a mess of the ventricles (the lower chambers of the heart that let blood to flow out of the heart). This mess can decrease the heart's capacity to exhaust blood to the body.
Enalapril may also be used for purposes not listed in this medicine guide.
You must not use enalapril if you have ever had angioedema, or if you are allergic to enalapril or to any another ACE inhibitor (benazepril, captopril, fosinopril, lisinopril, moexipril, perindopril, quinapril, ramipril, trandolapril).
To create certain enalapril is safety for you, speak your doctor if you have:
· kidney malady (or if you are on dialysis);
· liver disease;
· heart malady or congestive heart failure (unless you are taking enalapril for this condition);
· diabetes; or
· a history of blood clot or stroke (including "mini-stroke").
FDA pregnancy category D. Do not use enalapril if you are pregnant. Stop using this medicine and speak your doctor right away if you become pregnant. Enalapril can reason injury or death to the unborn child if you take the medication during your second or third trimester. Use effective birth control while taking this medication.
Enalapril can pass into breast milk and may harm a nursing child. You must not breast-feed while you are using enalapril.
Follow all directions on your prescription label. Do not take this medication in larger or less amounts or for longer than recommended.
Your doctor may occasionally change your doze to create certain you get the excellent results.
Enalapril can be taken with or without food.
Shake the oral suspension (liquid) well just till you measure a doze. Measure the liquid with a particular dose-measuring spoon or medication cup. If you do not have a dose-measuring device, ask your pharmacist for one.
You may have very low blood pressure while taking this medicine. Call your doctor if you are sick with vomiting or diarrhea, or if you are sweating more than normal.
Your blood pressure will need to be checked often. Your kidney or liver function may also need to be tested.
If you need surgery, speak the surgeon onward of time that you are using enalapril. You may need to stop using the medication for a short time.
If you are being treated for tall blood pressure, keep using this medicine even if you feel well. Tall blood pressure often has no symptoms. You may need to use blood pressure medicine for the rest of your life.
Store at room temperature away from moisture and heat. Hold the bottle tightly closed when not in use.
Store the liquid medication in the refrigerator, do not freeze. Throw away any unused liquid after 30 days.
Take the missed doze as soon as you remember. Skip the missed doze if it is nearly time for your following scheduled doze. Do not take extra medication to create up the missed dose.
Search abnormal medical attention or call the Poison Help line at 1-800-222-1222.
Avoid drinking alcohol. It can further lower your blood pressure and may magnify some of the side effects of enalapril.
Do not use salt substitutes or potassium supplements while taking enalapril, unless your doctor has told you to.
Get abnormal medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; severe stomach pain; difficult breathing; swelling of your person, lips, tongue, or throat.
Call your doctor at once if you have:
· a light-headed feeling, like you might pass out;
· few or no urinating;
· confusion, loss of appetite, vomiting, pain in your side or lower back;
· swelling, rapid weight gain;
· weakness, confusion, heighten thirst, loss of appetite, vomiting, pounding heartbeats or fluttering in your chest;
· fever, chills, body aches, flu symptoms;
· pale skin, light bruising or bleeding;
· quick or uneven heartbeats;
· tall potassium (slow heart course, weak pulse, muscle weakness, tingly feeling);
· chest pain; or
· jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes).
General side effects may include:
· cough;
· dry mouth, loss of taste sensation, loss of appetite;
· dizziness, drowsiness, headache;
· sleep problems (insomnia);
· nausea, vomiting, diarrhea; or
· mild skin itching or rash.

Speak your doctor about all medicines you use, and those you start or stop using during your treatment with enalapril, especially:
· lithium;
· a diuretic or "water pill";
· gold injections to treat arthritis;
· a potassium supplement such as Cytra, Epiklor, K-Lyte, K-Phos, Kaon, Klor-Con, or Polycitra; or
· aspirin or NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs)--ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin), naproxen (Aleve), celecoxib, diclofenac, indomethacin, meloxicam, and others.
