What is the most significant information I must know about dextromethorphan, guaifenesin, and pseudoephedrine?

• You must not use this medication if you have untreated or uncontrolled illness such as tall blood pressure or coronary artery malady. Do not use if you are allergic to dextromethorphan, guaifenesin, or pseudoephedrine.

• Do not use cough or cool medication if you have taken an MAO inhibitor in the past 14 days. A dangerous drug interaction could occur. MAO inhibitors include furazolidone, isocarboxazid, linezolid, phenelzine, rasagiline, selegiline, and tranylcypromine.

• Always ask a doctor till giving a cough or cool medication to a child. Death can occur from the misuse of cough and cool medicines in very young children.

• Ask a doctor or pharmacist till using any another cool, cough, or allergy medication. Dextromethorphan, guaifenesin, and pseudoephedrine are contained in much combination medicines. What is dextromethorphan, guaifenesin, and pseudoephedrine?

• Dextromethorphan is a cough suppressant. It affects the signals in the brain that trigger cough reflex.

• Guaifenesin is an expectorant. It helps loosen congestion in your chest and throat, making it easier to cough out through your mouth.

• Pseudoephedrine is a decongestant that shrinks blood vessels in the nasal passages. Dilated blood vessels can reason nasal congestion (stuffy nose).

• Dextromethorphan, guaifenesin, and pseudoephedrine is a combination medication used to treat stuffy nose, sinus congestion, cough, and chest congestion caused by the general cool or flu.

• Dextromethorphan will not treat a cough that is caused by smoking, asthma, or emphysema.

• Dextromethorphan, guaifenesin, and pseudoephedrine may also be used for purposes not listed in this medicine guide.

What must I discuss with my healthcare provider till using dextromethorphan, guaifenesin, and pseudoephedrine?

• Ask a doctor or pharmacist if it is safety for you to take this medication if you have another medical conditions, especially:

· diabetes;

· epilepsy or another seizure disorder;

· pheochromocytoma (an adrenal gland tumor); or

· cough with mucus, or cough caused by chronic bronchitis.

• FDA pregnancy category C. It is not known whether dextromethorphan, guaifenesin, and pseudoephedrine will harm an unborn child. Do not use this medication without medical advice if you are pregnant.

• Dextromethorphan, guaifenesin, and pseudoephedrine may pass into breast milk and may harm a nursing child. Decongestants may also slow breast milk manufacture. Do not use this medication without medical advice if you are breast-feeding a baby.

• Artificially sweetened liquid medication may contain phenylalanine. Check the medicine label if you have phenylketonuria (PKU).

How must I take dextromethorphan, guaifenesin, and pseudoephedrine?

• Use exactly as directed on the label, or as predesigned by your doctor. Do not use in larger or less amounts or for longer than recommended. Cool or cough medication is generally taken only for a short time before your symptoms clear up.

• Always ask a doctor till giving cough or cool medication to a baby. Death can occur from the misuse of cough or cool medication in very young children.

• Measure liquid medication with a particular dose-measuring spoon or medication cup. If you do not have a dose-measuring device, ask your pharmacist for one.

• Drink extra fluids to help loosen the congestion and lubricate your throat while you are taking this medication.

• Do not crush, chew, or interrupt an extended-release tablet. Swallow it intact.

• Call doctor if your symptoms do not improve after 7 days of treatment, or if you have a fever with a headache, cough, or skin rash.

• If you need surgery, speak the surgeon onward of time if you have taken a cool medication within the past little days.

• Store at room temperature, away from heat, easy, and moisture.

What happens if I miss a dose?

• Since cough and cool medication is used when needed, you may not be on a dosing schedule. If you are on a schedule, use the missed doze as soon as you remember. Skip the missed doze if it is nearly time for your following scheduled doze. Do not use extra medication to create up the missed dose.

What happens if I overdose?

• Search abnormal medical attention or call the Poison Help line at 1-800-222-1222.

What must I avoid while taking dextromethorphan, guaifenesin, and pseudoephedrine?

• This medicine may impair your thinking or reactions. Be careful if you drive or do anything that requires you to be alert.

• Drinking alcohol can magnify determined side effects of dextromethorphan, guaifenesin, and pseudoephedrine.

What are the possible side effects of dextromethorphan, guaifenesin, and pseudoephedrine?

• Get abnormal medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficult breathing; swelling of your person, lips, tongue, or throat.

• Stop using this medication and call your doctor at once if you have:

· severe dizziness or anxiety, feeling like you might pass out;

· severe headache;

· mood changes;

· fever; or

· dangerously tall blood pressure (severe headache, blurred vision, buzzing in your ears, anxiety, chest pain, uneven heartbeats, seizure).

• Another general side effects may include:

· dizziness, drowsiness;

· sleep problems (insomnia);

· diarrhea; or

· feeling nervous, restless, or irritable.
