What is the most significant information I must know about butabarbital?

• Butabarbital may reason a severe allergic reaction. Stop taking butabarbital and get abnormal medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your person, lips, tongue, or throat.

• Take butabarbital only when you are getting ready for different hours of sleep. You may fall asleep very quickly after taking the medicine.

• Some people using this medication have engaged in activity such as driving, eating, or making telephone calls and later having no memory of the activity. If this happens to you, stop taking butabarbital and conversation with your doctor about other treatment for your sleep disorder.

• Do not use butabarbital without telling your doctor if you are pregnant. It could reason harm to the unborn child. Use an effective form of birth control, and speak your doctor if you become pregnant during treatment.

• Butabarbital can create birth control pills smaller effective. Ask your doctor about using a non-hormone method of birth control (such as a condom, diaphragm, spermicide) to prevent pregnancy while taking butabarbital.

• Butabarbital may be habit-forming and should be used only by the face it was predesigned for. Butabarbital must never be shared with other face, especially somebody who has a history of drug abuse or addiction. Hold the medicine in a secure seat where others can't get to it.

What is butabarbital?

• Butabarbital is in a group of drugs called barbiturates (bar-BIT-chur-ates). Butabarbital slows the activity of your brain and nervous system.

• Butabarbital is used short-term to treat insomnia, or as a sedative till surgery.

• Butabarbital may also be used for purposes another than those listed in this medicine guide.

What must I discuss with my healthcare provider till taking butabarbital?

• Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to butabarbital, aspirin, or any kind of yellow paint (coloring in food or medicines).

• Till taking butabarbital, speak your doctor if you are allergic to any drugs, or if you have:

· severe asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary mess (COPD), or another breathing disorder;

· liver disease;

· anemia (lack of red blood cells);

· a history of depression, mental diseases, or suicide attempt; or

· a history of drug or alcohol addiction.

• If you have any of these conditions, you may not be able to use butabarbital, or you may need a dosage adjustment or particular trials during treatment.

• FDA pregnancy category D. This medicine can reason harm to an unborn child. Do not use butabarbital without your doctor's consent if you are pregnant. Speak your doctor if you become pregnant during treatment. Use an effective form of birth control while you are using this medication.

• Butabarbital can pass into breast milk and may harm a nursing child. Do not use this medicine without telling your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby.

How must I take butabarbital?

• Take this medicine exactly as it was predesigned for you. Do not take the medicine in larger amounts, or take it for longer than recommended by your doctor. Follow the directions on your prescription label.

• Take butabarbital only when you are getting ready for different hours of sleep. You may fall asleep very quickly after taking the medicine.

• Take this medication with a full glass of water. Do not mix butabarbital oral liquid with any type of fruit juice.

• Measure the liquid form of butabarbital with a particular dose-measuring spoon or cup, not a regular table spoon. If you do not have a dose-measuring device, ask your pharmacist for one.

• If you are taking this medication to treat insomnia, take it only at bedtime. Call your doctor if your insomnia symptoms do not improve within 7 to 10 days of taking butabarbital.

• Do not change your doze of butabarbital without your doctor's advice. Do not use butabarbital for longer than 2 weeks to treat insomnia, unless your doctor has told you to.

• You may have withdrawal symptoms (such as anxiety, insomnia, or feeling irritable) when you stop using butabarbital after using it over a long period of time. Do not stop using butabarbital suddenly without first talking to your doctor. You may need to use smaller and smaller till you stop the medicine completely.

• Store butabarbital at room temperature away from moisture and heat.

• Hold track of how much pills have been used from every new bottle of this medication. Butabarbital is a drug of abuse and you must be aware if any face in the household is using this medication improperly or without a prescription.

What happens if I miss a dose?

• Skip the missed doze and wait before your following regularly scheduled time to take the medication. Do not take extra medication to create up the missed dose.

What happens if I overdose?

• Search abnormal medical attention if you think you have used too many of this medication. An overdose of butabarbital can be fatal.

• Symptoms of a butabarbital overdose may include slow or shallow breathing, blurred vision, extreme drowsiness, feeling light-headed, or fainting.

What must I avoid while taking butabarbital?

• Butabarbital can reason side effects that may impair your thinking or reactions. Be careful if you drive or do anything that requires you to be awake and alert.

• Cool or allergy medication, narcotic pain medication, sleeping pills, muscle relaxers, and medication for seizures, depression or anxiety can add to sleepiness caused by butabarbital. Speak your doctor if you need to use any of these another medicines while you are taking butabarbital.

• Avoid drinking alcohol. It can magnify some of the side effects of butabarbital.

What are the possible side effects of butabarbital?

• Call your doctor at once if you have any of these serious side effects:

· feeling like you might pass out;

· a fever or a sore throat;

· sores in your mouth;

· light bruising or bleeding; or

· trouble breathing or swallowing.

• Smaller serious side effects may be more likely to occur, such as:

· drowsiness or dizziness;

· problems with memory or concentration;

· excitement (especially in children or older adults);

· joint or muscle pain;

· nausea, vomiting, upset stomach, constipation; or

· nightmares or heighten dreaming.

What another drugs will affect butabarbital?

• The next drugs can interact with butabarbital. Speak your doctor if you are using any of these:

· a blood thinner such as warfarin (Coumadin);

· seizure medication;

· metronidazole (Flagyl);

· theophylline (Theo-Dur, Theochron, Theolair, Slo-Bid, others);

· rifampin (Rifadin, Rifamate, Rimactane);

· a beta-blocker such as metoprolol (Lopressor, Toprol), propranolol (Inderal, InnoPran), and others;

· an MAO inhibitor such as isocarboxazid (Marplan), phenelzine (Nardil), rasagiline (Azilect), selegiline (Eldepryl, Emsam), or tranylcypromine (Parnate);

· a calcium channel blocker such as felodipine (Plendil) or verapamil (Calan, Covera); or

· steroids such as prednisone (Orasone, Deltasone), prednisolone (Prelone, Delta Cortef), methylprednisolone (Medrol), and others.

• This list is not complete and there may be another drugs that can interact with butabarbital. Speak your doctor about all the prescription and over-the-counter medications you use. This includes vitamins, minerals, herbal commodity, and drugs predesigned by another doctors. Do not start using a new medicine without telling your doctor.
