Codeine is in a group of drugs called narcotics. It is a cough suppressant that affects the signals in the brain that trigger cough reflex.
Guaifenesin is an expectorant. It helps loosen congestion in your chest and throat, making it easier to cough out through your mouth.
The combination of codeine and guaifenesin is used to treat cough and to reduce chest congestion caused by upper respiratory infections or the general cold.
Codeine and guaifenesin will not treat a cough that is caused by smoking, asthma, or emphysema.
Codeine and guaifenesin may also be used for another purposes not listed in this medicine guide.
You must not take this medicine if you are allergic to codeine or guaifenesin.
To create certain you can safely take codeine and guaifenesin, speak your doctor if you have any of these another conditions:
· heart malady, heart rhythm disorder;
· asthma, COPD, emphysema, or another breathing disorders;
· a history of head injury or brain tumor;
· epilepsy or another seizure disorder;
· a stomach or intestinal disorder;
· Addison's malady or another adrenal gland disorders;
· curvature of the spine;

· liver or kidney disease;

Codeine can pass into breast milk and may harm a nursing child. The use of codeine by some nursing mothers may lead to life-threatening side effects in the child. Do not use this medicine if you are breast-feeding a baby.

Liquid forms of this medicine may contain sugar or artificial sweetener (phenylalanine). Conversation to your doctor till using this form of codeine and guaifenesin if you have diabetes or phenylketonuria (PKU).
Take exactly as predesigned by your doctor. Do not take in larger or less amounts or for longer than recommended. Follow the directions on your prescription label. Cough or cool medication is generally taken only for a short time before your symptoms clear up.

Call your doctor if your symptoms do not improve after 7 days of treatment, or if you also have a fever, headache, or skin rash.

Do not stop using this medicine suddenly after long-term use or you could have unpleasant withdrawal symptoms. Ask your doctor how to avoid withdrawal symptoms when you stop using the medication.
Store at room temperature away from moisture, heat, and easy. Hold the bottle tightly closed when not in use.
Hold track of the amount of medication used from every new bottle. Codeine is a drug of abuse and you must be aware if anyone is using your medication improperly or without a prescription.
Since cough medication is taken when needed, you may not be on a dosing schedule. If you are taking the medicine regularly, take the missed doze as soon as you remember. Skip the missed doze if it is nearly time for your following scheduled doze. Do not take extra medication to create up the missed dose.

Overdose symptoms may include extreme dizziness or drowsiness, nausea, vomiting, sweating, confusion, hallucinations, cool and clammy skin, blue-colored lips or fingernails, weak or limp muscles, pinpoint pupils, weak pulse, slow breathing, fainting, or seizures (convulsions).

· severe dizziness or drowsiness;
· confusion, hallucinations, unusual thoughts or behavior;
· urinating smaller than normal or not at all; or
· slow heart course, weak pulse, fainting, weak or shallow breathing.
Smaller serious side effects include:
· dizziness, drowsiness, headache;
· warmth, redness, or tingling under your skin;
· nausea, vomiting, upset stomach;
· constipation; or
· skin rash or itching.

Till taking this medicine, speak your doctor if you regularly use another medicines that create you sleepy (such as allergy medication, narcotic pain medication, sleeping pills, muscle relaxers, and medication for seizures, depression, or anxiety). They can add to sleepiness caused by codeine and guaifenesin.
Also speak your doctor if you are using any of the next drugs:
· droperidol (Inapsine);
· alvimopan (Entereg);
· naloxone (Narcan, Suboxone);
· tramadol (Ultram, Ultracet);
· bupropion (Wellbutrin, Zyban); or
· bowel cleansing preparations (Half Lytely, Fleet Prep Kit, Evac-Q-Kwik, GoLytely, Supraprep, and others).
