What is the most significant information I must know about metolazone?

• Do not use this medicine if you are unable to urinate, or if you have severe liver disease.

• Till using this medicine, speak your doctor if you have liver malady, kidney malady, asthma, allergies, gout, diabetes, or an allergy to sulfa drugs.

• Avoid drinking alcohol, which can magnify some of the side effects of metolazone.

• Avoid becoming overheated or dehydrated during exercice and in hot weather. Follow your doctor's instructions about the type and amount of liquids you must drink. In some cases, drinking too many liquid can be as unsafe as not drinking enough.

• There are much another medicines that can interact with metolazone. Speak your doctor about all the prescription and over-the-counter medications you use. This includes vitamins, minerals, herbal commodity, and drugs predesigned by another doctors. Do not start using a new medicine without telling your doctor. Hold a list with you of all the medicines you use and show this list to any doctor or another healthcare provider who treats you.

• If you are being treated for tall blood pressure, hold using this medicine even if you feel beautiful. Tall blood pressure often has no symptoms.

What is metolazone?

• Metolazone is a thiazide diuretic (water pill) that helps prevent your body from absorbing too many salt, which can reason fluid retention.

• Metolazone treats fluid retention (edema) in people with congestive heart failure, or a kidney mess such as nephrotic syndrome. This medicine is also used to treat tall blood pressure (hypertension).

• Metolazone may also be used for another purposes not listed in this medicine guide.

What must I discuss with my doctor till taking metolazone?

• Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to metolazone, or if you have:

· severe liver malady; or

· if you are unable to urinate.

• If you have determined conditions, you may need a doze adjustment or particular trials to safely take this medicine. Till using metolazone, speak your doctor if you have:

· kidney disease;

· liver disease;

· gout;

· diabetes; or

· an allergy to sulfa drugs.

• FDA pregnancy category B. This medicine is not expected to be deleterious to an unborn child. Speak your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant during treatment.

• Metolazone can pass into breast milk and may harm a nursing child. Do not use this medicine without telling your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby.

How must I take metolazone?

• Take this medicine exactly as it was predesigned for you. Do not take the medicine in larger amounts, or take it for longer than recommended by your doctor. Follow the directions on your prescription label.

• Your doctor may occasionally change your doze to create certain you get the excellent results from this medication.

• To be certain this medicine is not causing deleterious effects, your blood will need to be tested on a regular basis. Do not miss any scheduled appointments.

• Your blood and urine may both be tested if you have been vomiting or are dehydrated.

• If you need to have any type of surgery, speak the surgeon onward of time that you are taking metolazone. You may need to stop using the medication for a short time.

• If you are being treated for tall blood pressure, hold using this medicine even if you feel beautiful. Tall blood pressure often has no symptoms.

• Store the tablets at room temperature away from heat, easy, and moisture.

What happens if I miss a dose?

• Take the missed doze as soon as you remember. If it is nearly time for your following doze, skip the missed doze and take the medication at the following regularly scheduled time. Do not take extra medication to create up the missed dose.

What happens if I overdose?

• Search abnormal medical attention if you think you have used too many of this medicine.

• Overdose symptoms may include nausea, weakness, dizziness, dry mouth, thirst, muscle pain or weakness, feeling light-headed, or fainting.

What must I avoid while taking metolazone?

• Avoid drinking alcohol, which can magnify some of the side effects of metolazone.

• Avoid using another medicines that create you light-headed (narcotic pain medicine, muscle relaxers, and medication for seizures). They can add to the side effects of metolazone. Speak your doctor if you regularly use any of these medicines, or any another blood pressure medications.

What are the possible side effects of metolazone?

• Get abnormal medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your person, lips, tongue, or throat.

• Stop using this medicine and call your doctor at once if you have a serious side effect such as:

· dry mouth, thirst, nausea, vomiting;

· feeling weak, drowsy, restless, or light-headed;

· quick or uneven heartbeat;

· muscle pain or weakness;

· chest pain;

· urinating smaller than normal or not at all; or

· numbness or tingly feeling.

• Smaller serious side effects may include:

· dizziness;

· headache;

· joint pain;

· a red, blistering, peeling skin rash; or

· blurred vision.

What another drugs will affect metolazone?

• Till taking this medicine, speak your doctor if you are using any of the next drugs:

· lithium (Lithobid, Eskalith);

· digoxin (Lanoxin);

· methenamine (Hiprex, Mandelamine, Urex);

· steroids (prednisone and others);

· insulin or diabetic medication you take by mouth;

· a blood thinner such as warfarin (Coumadin);

· furosemide (Lasix) or another blood pressure medications;

· salicylates such as aspirin, Disalcid, Doan's Pills, Dolobid, Salflex, Tricosal, and others; or

· NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) such as aspirin, ibuprofen (Motrin, Advil), diclofenac (Voltaren), indomethacin, naproxen (Aleve, Naprosyn), piroxicam (Feldene), nabumetone (Relafen), etodolac (Lodine), and others.
