What is the most significant information I must know about doxylamine?

• You must not use this medicine if you have severe constipation, a blockage in your stomach or intestines, or if you are unable to urinate.

• Do not use this medication if you have untreated or uncontrolled illness such as glaucoma, asthma or COPD, heart malady, or a thyroid disorder.

• Ask a doctor or pharmacist about taking this medicine if you have liver or kidney malady, an enlarged prostate, problems with urination, a blockage in your stomach or intestines, or a chronic lung malady such as bronchitis or emphysema.

• Do not use this medicine to treat insomnia in a baby younger than 12 years old. Ask a doctor till using this medicine to treat cool or allergy symptoms in a baby younger than 6 years old. Always ask a doctor till giving a cool medication to a child. Death can occur from the misuse of cough and cool medicines in very young children.

• This medicine may reason blurred vision and may impair your thinking or reactions. Be careful if you drive or do anything that requires you to be alert and able to see clearly.

• Drinking alcohol can magnify determined side effects of doxylamine.

What is doxylamine?

• Doxylamine is an antihistamine that reduces the effects of natural chemical histamine in the body. Histamine can manufacture symptoms of sneezing, itching, watery eyes, and runny nose.

• Doxylamine is used to treat sneezing, itching, watery eyes, and runny nose caused by allergies or the general cold.

• Doxylamine is also used as a short-term treatment for sleep problems (insomnia).

• Doxylamine may also be used for purposes not listed in this medicine guide.

What must I discuss with my health care provider till taking doxylamine?

• Do not use this medication if you have untreated or uncontrolled illness such as glaucoma, asthma or COPD, heart malady, or a thyroid disorder.

• You must not use this medicine if you are allergic to doxylamine, or if you have:

· severe constipation;

· a blockage in your digestive tract (stomach or intestines); or

· if you are unable to urinate.

• Ask a doctor or pharmacist if it is safety for you to take this medicine if you have:

· liver or kidney disease;

· an enlarged prostate;

· problems with urination; or

· bronchitis, emphysema, or another chronic lung disease.

• FDA pregnancy category B. This medicine is not expected to be deleterious to an unborn child. Do not use this medication without a doctor's advice if you are pregnant.

• Doxylamine may pass into breast milk and may harm a nursing child. Antihistamines may also slow breast milk manufacture. Do not use this medication without a doctor's advice if you are breast-feeding a baby.

How must I take doxylamine?

• Use exactly as directed on the label, or as predesigned by your doctor. Do not use in larger or less amounts or for longer than recommended. This medication is generally taken only for a short time before your symptoms clear up.

• Take this medication with food or milk if it upsets your stomach.

• The chewable tablet should be chewed till you swallow it.

• To treat insomnia, it is excellent to take doxylamine only when you can devote different hours to sleep. Follow your doctor's instructions.

• Conversation with your doctor if your cool or allergy symptoms do not improve after 7 days of treatment, or if your sleep problems do not improve after 2 weeks of treatment.

• This medicine can reason you to have unusual results with allergy skin trials. Speak any doctor who treats you that you are taking an antihistamine.

• Store at room temperature away from moisture and heat.

What happens if I miss a dose?

• Take the missed doze as soon as you remember. Skip the missed doze if it is nearly time for your following scheduled doze. Do not take extra medication to create up the missed dose.

• When treating insomnia, if it is nearly your usual waking hour, skip the missed doze and wait before you are ready for bed again.

What happens if I overdose?

• Search abnormal medical attention or call the Poison Help line at 1-800-222-1222.

• Overdose symptoms may include severe forms of some of the side effects listed in this medicine guide.

What must I avoid while taking doxylamine?

• Ask a doctor or pharmacist till using any another cool, cough, allergy, or sleep medication. Antihistamines are contained in much combination medicines. Taking determined commodity together can reason you to get too many of a determined drug. Check the label to see if a medication contains an antihistamine.

• This medicine may reason blurred vision and may impair your thinking or reactions. Be careful if you drive or do anything that requires you to be alert and able to see clearly.

• Avoid becoming overheated or dehydrated during exercice and in hot weather. Doxylamine can decrease sweating and you may be more prone to heat stroke.

• Drinking alcohol can magnify determined side effects of doxylamine.

What are the possible side effects of doxylamine?

• Get abnormal medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your person, lips, tongue, or throat.

• Call your doctor at once if you have any of these serious side effects:

· quick or uneven heart rate;

· confusion, hallucinations, unusual thoughts or behavior;

· severe dizziness, anxiety, restless feeling, or nervousness;

· light bruising or bleeding, unusual weakness, fever, chills, body aches, flu symptoms; or

· urinating smaller than normal or not at all.

• Smaller serious side effects may include:

· blurred vision;

· dry mouth;

· nausea, stomach pain, constipation;

· dizziness, drowsiness;

· problems with memory or concentration;

· ringing in your ears; or

· feeling restless or excited (especially in children).

What another drugs will affect doxylamine?

• Ask a doctor or pharmacist till using this medication if you regularly use another medicines that create you sleepy (such as narcotic pain medicine, sedatives, sleeping pills, muscle relaxers, and medication for seizures, depression or anxiety). They can add to sleepiness caused by doxylamine.

• Ask a doctor or pharmacist if it is safety for you to use doxylamine if you are also using any of the next drugs:

· diphenhydramine taken by mouth or applied to the skin (Benadryl, Tylenol PM, and much others);

· topiramate (Topamax);

· zonisamide (Zonegran);

· anti-nausea medications such as belladonna (Donnatal), dimenhydrinate (Dramamine), methscopolamine (Pamine), or scopolamine (Transderm Scop);

· bladder or urinary medications such as darifenacin (Enablex), flavoxate (Urispas), oxybutynin (Ditropan, Oxytrol), solifenacin (Vesicare), tolterodine (Detrol), or Urogesic Blue;

· bronchodilators such as ipratropium (Atrovent) or tiotropium (Spiriva);

· a diuretic (water pill);

· irritable bowel medications such as dicyclomine (Bentyl), hyoscyamine (Hyomax), or propantheline (Pro Banthine); or

· ulcer medication such as glycopyrrolate (Robinul) or mepenzolate (Cantil).

• This list is not complete and there may be another drugs that can interact with doxylamine.
