Determined brands or strengths of leuprolide are used to treat only men and must not be used in women or children. Leuprolide can harm an unborn child or reason birth defects. Do not use if you are pregnant.
You must not breast-feed while you are using leuprolide.
You must not use leuprolide if you have emergency vaginal bleeding that has not been diagnosed by a doctor.
Leuprolide overstimulates the body's own manufacture of determined hormones, which causes that manufacture to shut down temporarily. Leuprolide reduces the amount of testosterone in men or estrogen in women.
Leuprolide is used in men to treat the symptoms of prostate cancer. Leuprolide treats only the symptoms of prostate cancer and does not treat the cancer itself.
Leuprolide is used in women to treat symptoms of endometriosis (overgrowth of uterine lining external of the uterus) or uterine fibroids.
Leuprolide is also used to treat precocious (early-onset) puberty in both male and female children.
Leuprolide may also be used for purposes not listed in this medicine guide.

You must not use this medicine if you are allergic to leuprolide or similar medications such as buserelin (Suprefact, Suprecor), goserelin (Zoladex), histrelin (Supprelin, Vantas), nafarelin (Synarel), or if you have:
· emergency vaginal bleeding that has not been diagnosed by a doctor; or
· if you are pregnant or breast-feeding.
Do not breast-feed a child while using leuprolide.
To create certain leuprolide is safety for you, speak your doctor if you have:
· a private or family history of osteoporosis;
· risk factors for bone loss such as smoking, alcohol use, or taking steroid or seizure medications long term;
· diabetes, heart malady, tall blood pressure, last weight gain, tall cholesterol (especially in men);
· epilepsy;
· asthma;
· migraines;
· kidney disease;
· a history of depression;
· bone cancer affecting your spine;
· blood in your urine; or
· if you are unable to urinate.
FDA pregnancy category X. This medicine can reason birth defects. Do not use leuprolide if you are pregnant. Speak your doctor right away if you become pregnant during treatment.
Leuprolide generally causes women to stop ovulating or having menstrual periods. However, you may still be able to get pregnant. Use an effective barrier form of birth control (such as a condom or diaphragm with spermicide gel or inserts). Hormonal forms of contraception (such as birth control pills, injections, implants, skin patches, and vaginal rings) may not be effective in preventing pregnancy while you are using leuprolide.
Because leuprolide is expected to reason your menstrual periods to stop, contact your doctor if your periods continue while you are being treated with this medication.
Long-term use of this medicine may decrease bone density, possibly leading to osteoporosis. Conversation with your doctor about your possible risk for osteoporosis. You may need to receive a bone scan if you ever need to be re-treated with leuprolide in the future.
Leuprolide is injected under the skin or into a muscle. You may be shown how to use injections at house. Do not self-inject this medication if you do not fully understand how to give the injection and properly dispose of used needles and syringes.
This medicine comes with patient instructions for safety and effective use. Follow these directions carefully. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions.
Leuprolide may be given once each month or once each 3 to 6 months. How often you receive this medicine will depend on the condition being treated. Follow your doctor's instructions.
Because various brands or strengths of leuprolide are used to treat various conditions, it is very significant that you receive exactly the brand and power your doctor has prescribed. If you self-inject this medicine at house, always check your medicine to create certain you have received the correct brand and type predesigned by your doctor.
Your symptoms may become temporarily worse as your hormones adjust when you first start using this medicine. For excellent results, hold using the medicine as instructed by your doctor. Your condition must eventually improve with continued use of leuprolide.
While using leuprolide, you may need frequent blood trials at your doctor's office. Leuprolide can have long lasting effects on your body. You may also need medical trials for a short time after you stop using this medicine.
Store Lupron in the original carton at room temperature, away from moisture and heat.
Store Eligard in the refrigerator. Do not freeze. You may take the medication out and let it to reach room temperature till mixing and injecting your doze. After the doze is mixed, you should use the injection within 30 minutes.
Use a disposable needle only once. Throw away used needles in a puncture-proof container (ask your pharmacist where you can get one and how to dispose of it). Hold this container out of the reach of children and pets.
Call your doctor for instructions if you miss a doze. Women who miss more than one leuprolide doze may have breakthrough bleeding. Children who miss more than one doze may have a return of pubertal symptoms such as breast development, growth in the testicles, or menstrual periods.

This medication can pass into body fluids (including urine, feces, vomit, semen, vaginal fluid). For at least 48 hours after you receive a doze, avoid allowing your body fluids to come into contact with your hands or another surfaces. Patients and caregivers must wear rubber gloves while cleaning up body fluids, handling contaminated trash or laundry or changing diapers. Wash hands till and after removing gloves. Wash soiled clothing and linens apart from another laundry.
Body fluids must not be handled by a woman who is pregnant or who may become pregnant. Use condoms during sexual activity to avoid exposure to body fluids.
Get abnormal medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your person, lips, tongue, or throat.
Call your doctor at once if you have:
· bone pain, loss of movement in any part of your body;
· swelling, rapid weight gain;
· pain, burning, stinging, bruising, or redness where the medicine was injected;
· feeling like you might pass out;
· sudden chest pain or discomfort, wheezing, dry cough or hack;
· painful or difficult urination;
· urinating more often than normal;
· tall blood sugar (increased thirst, heighten urination, famine, dry mouth, fruity breath odor, drowsiness, dry skin, blurred vision, weight loss);
· sudden numbness or weakness (especially on one side of the body), problems with speech or balance;
· sudden headache with vision problems, vomiting, confusion, slow heart course, weak pulse, fainting, or slow breathing; or
· chest pain spreading to the hand or shoulder, nausea, sweating, common ill feeling.
Rare but serious side effects may include:
· pain or unusual sensations in your back;
· numbness, weakness, or tingly feeling in your legs or feet;
· muscle weakness or loss of use;
· loss of bowel or bladder control; or
· nausea, upper stomach pain, itching, loss of appetite, dark urine, clay-colored stools, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes).
General side effects may include:
· acne, heighten growth of facial hair;
· breakthrough bleeding in a female baby during the first 2 months of leuprolide treatment;
· dizziness, weakness, weary feeling;
· hot flashes, night sweats, chills, clammy skin;
· nausea, diarrhea, constipation, stomach pain;
· skin redness, itching, or scaling;
· joint or muscle pain;
· vaginal itching or discharge;
· breast swelling or tenderness;
· testicle pain;
· impotence, loss of interest in sex;
· depression, sleep problems (insomnia), memory problems; or
· redness, burning, stinging, or pain where the shot was given.
