Tropicamide ophthalmic causes muscles in the eye to become relaxed. This dilates (widens) the pupil so that it does not contract (narrow) when your doctor shines an inspection easy into your eye.
Tropicamide ophthalmic is used to dilate the pupil for an eye inspection or another diagnostic procedure.
Tropicamide ophthalmic may also be used for purposes another than those listed in this medicine guide.
Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to tropicamide ophthalmic, or if you have untreated glaucoma.
FDA pregnancy category C. This medicine may be deleterious to an unborn child. Speak your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant during treatment.
Tropicamide ophthalmic can pass into breast milk and may harm a nursing child. Do not use this medicine without telling your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby.
Use this medicine exactly as it was predesigned for you. Do not use the medicine in larger amounts, or use it for longer than recommended by your doctor. Follow the instructions on your prescription label.
Tropicamide ophthalmic is most often used only in a doctor's office during an eye inspection. Instructions are provided adown for giving yourself the medicine if your doctor has predesigned it for house use.
Wash your hands till using the eye drops.
If you wear contact lenses, remove them till applying tropicamide ophthalmic. Ask your doctor if contact lenses can be reinserted after putting in the eye drops. Tropicamide ophthalmic may contain a preservative (benzalkonium chloride) that may reason discoloration of contact lenses.
To apply the eye drops:
· Tilt your head back slightly and pull down your lower eyelid. Keep the dropper above the eye with the dropper tip down. Look up and away from the dropper as you squeeze out a drop, then close your eye. Gently press your finger to the internal corner of the eye (near your nose) for about 1 minute to hold the liquid from draining into your tear duct. If you use more than one drop in the same eye, wait about 5 minutes till putting in the following drop.
· Do not let the dropper tip to touch any surface, including the eyes or hands. If the dropper becomes contaminated it could reason an infection in your eye, which can lead to vision loss or serious hurt to the eye.
Do not use the eye drops if the liquid has changed colors or has particles in it.
Store the drops at room temperature away from heat and moisture. Hold the bottle tightly closed when not in use.
Since tropicamide ophthalmic is generally given only during an eye exam, it is not likely that you will be on a dosing schedule.
Rinse your eye with water and search abnormal medical attention if you think you have used too many of this medicine.
Symptoms of a tropicamide ophthalmic overdose may include headache, quick heartbeat, dry mouth and skin, unusual drowsiness, and warmth or redness under your skin.

Get abnormal medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your person, lips, tongue, or throat.
Speak your doctor at once if you have any of these serious side effects:
· quick or uneven heart rate;
· hallucinations or unusual behavior (especially in children); or
· stomach bloating or discomfort.
Smaller serious side effects may be more likely to occur, such as:
· blurred vision;
· eye sensitivity to sunlight;
· stinging and burning; or
· swelling of the eyelids.
