What is the most significant information I must know about oxycodone?

• Oxycodone may be habit forming. Never share oxycodone with other face, especially somebody with a history of drug abuse or addiction. Hold the medicine in a seat where others can't get to it.

• Do not drink alcohol while you are taking oxycodone. Dangerous side effects or death can occur when alcohol is combined with a narcotic pain medication. Check your food and medication labels to be certain these commodity do not contain alcohol.

• Never take oxycodone in larger amounts, or for longer than recommended by your doctor. Follow the directions on your prescription label. Speak your doctor if the medication seems to stop working as well in relieving your pain.

What is oxycodone?

• Oxycodone is an opioid pain medicine. An opioid is sometimes called a narcotic.

• Oxycodone is used to treat temperate to severe pain. The extended-release form of this medicine is for around-the-clock treatment of pain.

• Extended-release oxycodone is not for use on an as-needed basis for pain.

• Oxycodone may also be used for purposes not listed in this medicine guide.

What must I discuss with my healthcare provider till using oxycodone?

• Do not use this medicine if you have ever had an allergic reaction to a narcotic medication (examples include methadone, morphine, Oxycontin, Darvocet, Percocet, Vicodin, Lortab, and much others), or to a narcotic cough medication that contains codeine, hydrocodone, or dihydrocodeine.

• You must also not take oxycodone if you are having an asthma onslaught or if you have a bowel obstruction called paralytic ileus.

• To create certain oxycodone is safety for you, speak your doctor if you have:

· asthma, COPD, sleep apnea, or another breathing disorders;

· liver or kidney disease;

· underactive thyroid;

· trouble swallowing, or a blockage in your digestive tract (stomach or intestines);

· curvature of the spine that affects breathing;

· a history of head injury or brain tumor;

· epilepsy or another seizure disorder;

· low blood pressure;

· gallbladder disease;

· Addison's malady or another adrenal gland disorder;

· enlarged prostate, urination problems;

· mental diseases; or

· a history of drug or alcohol addiction.

• FDA pregnancy category B. Oxycodone is not expected to harm an unborn child. However, oxycodone may reason breathing problems, or addiction and withdrawal symptoms in your newborn if you take the medicine during pregnancy. Speak your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant.

• Oxycodone can pass into breast milk and may harm a nursing child. You must not breast-feed while you are using oxycodone.

• Older adults may be more likely to have side effects from this medicine.

How must I use oxycodone?

• Follow all directions on your prescription label. Never take this medication in larger amounts, or for longer than prescribed. Speak your doctor if the medication seems to stop working as well in relieving your pain.

• Do not crush, chew, or interrupt an extended-release tablet. Swallow it intact.

• If your doctor has told you to take two or more oxycodone tablets for doze, take the tablets one at a time. Do not wet, presoak, or lick the tablet till placing it in your mouth. Drink plenty of water to create swallowing easier and to prevent choking.

• Measure liquid medication with a particular dose-measuring spoon or medication cup. If you do not have a dose-measuring device, ask your pharmacist for one.

• Drink plenty of water daily to help prevent constipation while you are using oxycodone. Ask your doctor about ways to magnify the fiber in your diet. Do not use a stool softener (laxative) without first asking your doctor.

• Do not stop using oxycodone suddenly after long-term use, or you could have unpleasant withdrawal symptoms. Ask your doctor how to avoid withdrawal symptoms when you stop using oxycodone.

• Never crush a tablet or another pill to mix into a liquid for injecting the drug into your vein. This practice has resulted in death with the misuse of oxycodone and similar prescription drugs.

• Store at room temperature, away from heat, moisture, and light.

• Hold track of the amount of medication used from every new bottle. Oxycodone is a drug of abuse and you must be aware if anyone is using your medication improperly or without a prescription.

• Always check your bottle to create certain you have received the correct pills (same brand and type) of medication predesigned by your doctor. Ask the pharmacist if you have any questions about the medication you receive at the pharmacy.

• After you have stopped using this medicine, flush any unused pills down the toilet. Throw away any unused liquid oxycodone that is older than 90 days.

What happens if I miss a dose?

• Since oxycodone is used when needed, you may not be on a dosing schedule. If you are on a schedule, use the missed doze as soon as you remember. Skip the missed doze if it is nearly time for your following scheduled doze. Do not use extra medication to create up the missed dose.

What happens if I overdose?

• Search abnormal medical attention or call the Poison Help line at 1-800-222-1222. An overdose of oxycodone can be fatal.

• Overdose symptoms may include extreme drowsiness, muscle weakness, confusion, cool and clammy skin, pinpoint pupils, shallow breathing, slow heart course, fainting, or coma.

What must I avoid while using oxycodone?

• Do not drink alcohol while you are taking this medicine. Dangerous side effects or death can occur when alcohol is combined with oxycodone. Check your food and medication labels to be certain these commodity do not contain alcohol.

• This medicine may impair your thinking or reactions. Avoid driving or operating machinery before you know how oxycodone will affect you.

• Grapefruit and grapefruit juice may interact with oxycodone and lead to unwanted side effects. Discuss the use of grapefruit commodity with your doctor.

What are the possible side effects of oxycodone?

• Get abnormal medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficult breathing; swelling of your person, lips, tongue, or throat.

• Stop using oxycodone and call your doctor at once if you have:

· shallow breathing, slow heartbeat;

· seizure (convulsions);

· cool, clammy skin;

· confusion;

· severe weakness or dizziness; or

· a feeling like you might pass out.

• General side effects may include:

· nausea, vomiting, constipation, loss of appetite;

· dizziness, headache, weary feeling;

· dry mouth;

· sweating; or

· itching.

What another drugs will affect oxycodone?

• Do not take oxycodone with any another narcotic pain medications, sedatives, tranquilizers, sleeping pills, muscle relaxers, or another medicines that can create you sleepy or slow your breathing. Dangerous side effects may result. Speak your doctor if you regularly use any of these medications, or medication for seizures, depression, or anxiety.

• Speak your doctor about all medicines you use, and those you start or stop using during your treatment with oxycodone, especially:

· pentazocine;

· nalbuphine;

· butorphanol; or

· buprenorphine.
