What is the most significant information I must know about guanabenz?

• Do not stop taking this medicine without first talking to your doctor. Stopping suddenly may create your condition worse.

• This medicine may impair your thinking or reactions. Be careful if you drive or do anything that requires you to be alert.

• Avoid getting up too quick from a sitting or lying position, or you may feel dizzy. Get up slowly and steady yourself to prevent a fall.

• Hold using this medication as directed, even if you feel well. Tall blood pressure often has no symptoms. You may need to use blood pressure medicine for the rest of your life.

What is guanabenz?

• Guanabenz lowers blood pressure by decreasing the levels of determined chemicals in the blood. This allows the blood vessels (veins and arteries) to slackening (widen).

• Guanabenz is used to treat hypertension (high blood pressure).

• Guanabenz may also be used for purposes another than those listed in this medicine guide.

What must I discuss with my healthcare provider till taking guanabenz?

• You must not use guanabenz if you are allergic to it.

• To create certain you can safely take guanabenz, speak your doctor if you have any of these another conditions:

· liver malady (especially cirrhosis);

· kidney malady, or if you are on dialysis;

· heart malady; or

· a last history of heart onslaught or stroke.

• FDA pregnancy category C. It is not known whether guanabenz will harm an unborn child. Speak your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant while using this medication.

• It is not known whether guanabenz passes into breast milk or if it could harm a nursing child. Do not use this medicine without telling your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby.

How must I take guanabenz?

• Take exactly as predesigned by your doctor. Do not take in larger or less amounts or for longer than recommended. Follow the directions on your prescription label.

• Guanabenz is generally taken 2 times every day. Follow your doctor's instructions.

• Your blood pressure will need to be checked often. Visit your doctor regularly.

• Hold using this medication as directed, even if you feel well. Tall blood pressure often has no symptoms. You may need to use blood pressure medicine for the rest of your life.

• Do not stop taking this medicine without first talking to your doctor. Stopping suddenly may create your condition worse.

• Store at room temperature away from moisture and heat.

What happens if I miss a dose?

• Take the missed doze as soon as you remember. Skip the missed doze if it is nearly time for your following scheduled doze. Do not take extra medication to create up the missed dose.

What happens if I overdose?

• Search abnormal medical attention or call the Poison Help line at 1-800-222-1222.

• Overdose symptoms may include extreme drowsiness, irritability, weak pulse, or fainting.

What must I avoid while taking guanabenz?

• This medicine may impair your thinking or reactions. Be careful if you drive or do anything that requires you to be alert.

• Avoid getting up too quick from a sitting or lying position, or you may feel dizzy. Get up slowly and steady yourself to prevent a fall.

• Avoid drinking alcohol. Guanabenz can magnify the effects of alcohol.

What are the possible side effects of guanabenz?

• Get abnormal medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficult breathing; swelling of your person, lips, tongue, or throat.

• Call your doctor at once if you have a serious side effect such as:

· very slow heart course;

· chest pain, severe headache, ringing in your ears; or

· feeling like you might pass out.

• Smaller serious side effects may include:

· dizziness, drowsiness;

· headache;

· dry mouth; or

· weakness.

What another drugs will affect guanabenz?

• Cool or allergy medication, sedatives, narcotic pain medication, sleeping pills, muscle relaxers, and medication for seizures, depression or anxiety can add to sleepiness caused by guanabenz. Speak your doctor if you regularly use any of these medicines, or any another blood pressure medications.

• This list is not complete and another drugs may interact with guanabenz. Speak your doctor about all medications you use. This includes prescription, over-the-counter, vitamin, and herbal commodity. Do not start a new medicine without telling your doctor.
