What is the most significant information I must know about emtricitabine, lopinavir, ritonavir, and tenofovir?

• You must not take this medicine if you have severe liver or kidney malady, or if you are allergic to emtricitabine (Emtriva, Atripla), lopinavir (Kaletra), ritonavir (Norvir), or tenofovir (Viread). Do not take this medicine with another medicines that also contain emtricitabine or tenofovir (Atripla, Emtriva, Viread).

Emtricitabine, lopinavir, ritonavir, and tenofovir are antiviral drugs that prevent HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) cells from multiplying in your body.

Emtricitabine, lopinavir, ritonavir, and tenofovir is a combination medicines used to treat HIV, which causes the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). Emtricitabine, lopinavir, ritonavir, and tenofovir is not a cure for HIV or AIDS.

Emtricitabine, lopinavir, ritonavir, and tenofovir may also be used for purposes not listed in this medicine guide.

What must I discuss with my healthcare provider till taking emtricitabine, lopinavir, ritonavir, and tenofovir?

• You must not take this medicine if you have severe liver or kidney malady, or if you are allergic to emtricitabine (Emtriva, Atripla), lopinavir (Kaletra), ritonavir (Norvir), or tenofovir (Viread). Do not take this medicine with another medicines that also contain emtricitabine or tenofovir (Atripla, Emtriva, Viread).

Some medicines can interact with emtricitabine, lopinavir, ritonavir, and tenofovir and must not be used at the same time. Your doctor may need to change your treatment plan if you use any of the next drugs:

· alfuzosin;

· lovastatin or simvastatin;

· St. John's wort;

· pimozide;

· midazolam or triazolam;

· rifampin;

· sildenafil, Viagra (or Revatio for pulmonary arterial hypertension); or

· an ergot medication such as D.H.E. 45, Ergomar, Cafergot, Ergotrate, Methergine, Migergot, or Migranal.

• To create certain emtricitabine, lopinavir, ritonavir, and tenofovir is safety for you, speak your doctor if you have:

· liver or kidney disease;

· heart malady or heart rhythm disorder;

· low levels of potassium in your blood;

How must I take emtricitabine, lopinavir, ritonavir, and tenofovir?

• Follow all directions on your prescription label. Do not take this medication in larger or less amounts or for longer than recommended.

• While using this medication, you may need frequent blood trials at your doctor's office. Your kidney and liver function or bone density may also need to be tested.

• HIV/AIDS is generally treated with a combination of drugs. Use all medications as directed by your doctor. Read the medicine manual or patient instructions provided with every medicine. Do not change your doses or medicine schedule without your doctor's advice. Each face with HIV or AIDS must stay under the care of a doctor.

• Store at room temperature away from moisture and heat. Do not freeze.

If you have hepatitis B you may develop liver symptoms after you stop taking this medicine, even months after stopping. Your doctor may want to check your liver function for different months after you stop using emtricitabine, lopinavir, ritonavir, and tenofovir.

What happens if I miss a dose?

• Take the missed doze as soon as you remember. Skip the missed doze if it is nearly time for your following scheduled doze. Do not take extra medication to create up the missed dose.

What happens if I overdose?

• Search abnormal medical attention or call the Poison Help line at 1-800-222-1222.

What must I avoid while taking emtricitabine, lopinavir, ritonavir, and tenofovir?

• If you also take didanosine (Videx), take it 1 hour till or 2 hours after you take emtricitabine, lopinavir, ritonavir, and tenofovir.

Taking this medicine will not prevent you from passing HIV to another people. Do not have unprotected sex or share razors or toothbrushes. Conversation with your doctor about safety ways to prevent HIV transmission during sex. Sharing drug or medication needles is never safety, even for a healthy person.

What are the possible side effects of emtricitabine, lopinavir, ritonavir, and tenofovir?

• Get abnormal medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your person, lips, tongue, or throat.

• Some people develop lactic acidosis while taking this medication. Early symptoms may get worse over time and this condition can be fatal. Get abnormal medical help if you have even mild symptoms such as: muscle pain or weakness, numb or cool feeling in your arms and legs, trouble breathing, stomach pain, nausea with vomiting, quick or uneven heart course, dizziness, or feeling very weak or weary.

• Call your doctor at once if you have:

· severe dizziness, fainting, quick or pounding heartbeats;

· vision changes;

· heighten urination or extreme thirst;

· penis erection that is painful or lasts longer than 4 hours;

· signs of new infection such as fever, chills, skin lesions, or cough with yellow or green mucus;

· severe pain in your upper stomach spreading to your back, nausea and vomiting, quick heart course;

· loss of appetite, itching, dark urine, clay-colored stools, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes);

· light bruising, unusual bleeding (nose, mouth, vagina, or rectum), purple or red pinpoint spots under your skin;

· swelling, rapid weight gain, feeling short of breath, few or no urinating; or

· severe skin reaction -- fever, sore throat, swelling in your person or tongue, burning in your eyes, skin pain, followed by a red or purple skin rash that spreads (especially in the person or upper body) and causes blistering and peeling.

• General side effects may include:

· mild skin rash;

· diarrhea, upset stomach;

· headache, mild dizziness;

· sleep problems (insomnia), strange dreams;

· runny or stuffy nose; or

· changes in the shape or location of body thick (especially in your arms, legs, person, neck, breasts, and waist).

What another drugs will affect emtricitabine, lopinavir, ritonavir, and tenofovir?

This medication can harm your kidneys. This effect is heighten when you also use determined another medicines, including: antivirals, chemotherapy, injected antibiotics, medication for bowel disorders, medication to prevent organ transplant rejection, and some pain or arthritis medicines (including aspirin, Tylenol, Advil, and Aleve). You may need doze adjustments or particular trials when taking any of these another medications.

Many drugs can interact with emtricitabine, lopinavir, ritonavir, and tenofovir. Not all possible interactions are listed here. Speak your doctor about all your medications and any you start or stop using during treatment with emtricitabine, lopinavir, ritonavir, and tenofovir, especially:
