What is the most significant information I must know about doripenem?

• You must not receive this medicine if you are allergic to doripenem, ertapenem (Invanz), imipenem (Primaxin), or meropenem (Merrem).

• To create certain doripenem is safety for you, speak your doctor if you have kidney malady, seizures, a history of allergy to a penicillin antibiotic.

• Speak your doctor if you also use probenecid or valproic acid.

What is doripenem?

Doripenem is an antibiotic that fights bacteria.

Doripenem is used to treat severe infections of the stomach, bladder, or kidneys.

Doripenem may also be used for purposes not listed in this medicine guide.

What must I discuss with my health care provider till receiving doripenem?

• You must not receive this medicine if you are allergic to doripenem, ertapenem (Invanz), imipenem (Primaxin), or meropenem (Merrem).

• To create certain doripenem is safety for you, speak your doctor if you have:

· kidney disease;

· seizures; or

· a history of allergy to penicillin antibiotics such as Amoxil, Augmentin, Bactocill, Bicillin L-A, Dycill, Dynapen, Moxatag, Omnipen, Principen, PC Pen VK, Pfizerpen, Ticar, Timentin, Unasyn, and others.

• FDA pregnancy category B. Doripenem is not expected to harm an unborn child. Speak your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant during treatment.

• It is not known whether doripenem passes into breast milk or if it could harm a nursing child. Speak your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby.

How is doripenem given?

• Follow all directions on your prescription label. Do not use this medication in larger or less amounts or for longer than recommended.

Doripenem is injected into a vein through an IV. You may be shown how to use an IV at house. Do not self-inject this medication if you do not understand how to give the injection and properly dispose of used needles, IV tubing, and another items used to inject the medicine.

Doripenem is generally given for 5 days to 2 weeks, depending on the condition being treated. You may be switched to an oral (pill form) antibiotic after the first little days of receiving doripenem by injection.

Doripenem is a powder that should be mixed with a liquid (diluent). You will need to seat the doripenem and diluent mixture in an IV bag of infusion solution till using it. If you are using the injections at house, be certain you understand how to properly mix and store the medicine. Ask your pharmacist if you have questions.

Use this medicine for the full predesigned length of time. Your symptoms may improve till the infection is completely cleared. Skipping doses may also magnify your risk of further infection that is resistant to antibiotics. Doripenem will not treat a viral infection such as the general cool or flu.

• After mixing the doripenem and diluent mixture with an IV infusion solution, you may store it at room temperature or in a refrigerator. Do not freeze.

• At room temperature: You may store the mixture for up to 4 hours if your infusion solution is 5% dextrose, or up to 12 hours if your infusion solution is usual saline.

• In a refrigerator: You may store the mixture for up to 24 hours if your infusion solution is 5% dextrose, or up to 72 hours if your infusion solution is usual saline.

Doripenem does not contain a preservative. Throw away any doripenem mixture not used within the correct number of hours based on your infusion solution and storage method.

What happens if I miss a dose?

• Call your doctor for instructions if you miss a doze of doripenem.

What happens if I overdose?

• Search abnormal medical attention or call the Poison Help line at 1-800-222-1222.

What must I avoid while receiving doripenem?

• Antibiotic medicines can reason diarrhea, which may be a sign of a new infection. If you have diarrhea that is watery or bloody, stop taking doripenem and call your doctor. Do not use anti-diarrhea medication unless your doctor tells you to.

What are the possible side effects of doripenem?

• Get abnormal medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficult breathing; swelling of your person, lips, tongue, or throat.

• Call your doctor at once if you have:

· diarrhea that is watery or bloody; or

· severe itching or skin rash.

• Another general side effects may include:

· headache;

· diarrhea, nausea;

· vaginal itching or discharge;

· mild rash; or

· pain, swelling, or redness where the medication was injected.

• This is not a complete list of side effects and others may occur. Call your doctor for medical advice about side effects. You may message side effects to FDA at 1-800-FDA-1088.

What another drugs will affect doripenem?

• Speak your doctor about all medicines you use, and those you start or stop using during your treatment with doripenem, especially:

· probenecid; or

· valproic acid.

• This list is not complete. Another drugs may interact with doripenem, including prescription and over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal commodity. Not all possible interactions are listed in this medicine manual.
