Patients who are immunised with live
vaccines while receiving immunosuppressive doses of
corticosteroids may develop generalised, possibly life-threatening, infections.
It has been recommended that live
vaccination should be postponed for at least 3 months after high-dose
corticosteroids are stopped. Adult patients taking the equivalent of 40 mg of
prednisolone daily for more than one week would generally be considered to be immunosuppressed.
