What is the most significant information I must know about chlorthalidone?

• Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to chlorthalidone or if you are unable to urinate.

• Till using this medicine, speak your doctor if you are allergic to sulfa drugs, or if you have liver malady, kidney malady, asthma, allergies, gout, lupus, or diabetes.

• Avoid drinking alcohol, which can magnify some of the side effects of chlorthalidone.

• Avoid becoming overheated or dehydrated during exercice and in hot weather. Follow your doctor's instructions about the type and amount of liquids you must drink. In some cases, drinking too many liquid can be as unsafe as not drinking enough.

• If you are being treated for tall blood pressure, hold using this medicine even if you feel beautiful. Tall blood pressure often has no symptoms.

What is chlorthalidone?

• Chlorthalidone is a thiazide diuretic (water pill) that helps prevent your body from absorbing too many salt, which can reason fluid retention.

• Chlorthalidone treats fluid retention (edema) in people with congestive heart failure, cirrhosis of the liver, or kidney disorders, or edema caused by taking steroids or estrogen. This medicine is also used to treat tall blood pressure (hypertension).

• Chlorthalidone may also be used for another purposes not listed in this medicine guide.

What must I discuss with my doctor till taking chlorthalidone?

• Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to chlorthalidone, or if you are unable to urinate.

• If you have any of these conditions, you may need a doze adjustment or particular trials to safely take this medicine. Till using chlorthalidone, speak your doctor if you have:

· kidney disease;

· liver disease;

· asthma or allergies;

· gout;

· lupus;

· diabetes; or

· if you have an allergy to sulfa drugs.

• FDA pregnancy category B. This medicine is not expected to be deleterious to an unborn child. Speak your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant during treatment.

• Chlorthalidone can pass into breast milk and may harm a nursing child. Do not use this medicine without telling your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby.

How must I take chlorthalidone?

• Take this medicine exactly as it was predesigned for you. Do not take the medicine in larger amounts, or take it for longer than recommended by your doctor. Follow the directions on your prescription label.

• Your doctor may occasionally change your doze to create certain you get the excellent results from this medication.

• To be certain this medicine is not causing deleterious effects, your blood will need to be tested on a regular basis. Do not miss any scheduled appointments.

• Your blood and urine may both be tested if you have been vomiting or are dehydrated.

• If you are being treated for tall blood pressure, hold using this medicine even if you feel beautiful. Tall blood pressure often has no symptoms.

• Store the tablets at room temperature away from heat, easy, and moisture.

What happens if I miss a dose?

• Take the missed doze as soon as you remember. If it is nearly time for your following doze, skip the missed doze and take the medication at the following regularly scheduled time. Do not take extra medication to create up the missed dose.

What happens if I overdose?

• Search abnormal medical attention if you think you have used too many of this medication. Overdose symptoms may include nausea, weakness, dizziness, dry mouth, thirst, and muscle pain or weakness.

What must I avoid while taking chlorthalidone?

• Avoid drinking alcohol, which can magnify some of the side effects of chlorthalidone.

• Avoid exposure to sunlight or artificial UV rays (sunlamps or tanning beds). Chlorthalidone can create your skin more sensitive to sunlight and sunburn may result. Use a sunscreen (minimum SPF 15) and wear protective clothing if you should be out in the sun.

What are the possible side effects of chlorthalidone?

• Get abnormal medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your person, lips, tongue, or throat.

• Stop using this medicine and call your doctor at once if you have any of these serious side effects:

· dry mouth, thirst, nausea, vomiting;

· feeling weak, drowsy, restless, or light-headed;

· quick or uneven heartbeat;

· muscle pain or weakness;

· urinating smaller than normal or not at all;

· light bruising or bleeding, unusual weakness;

· red or purple spots on your skin;

· numbness or tingly feeling; or

· nausea, stomach pain, low fever, loss of appetite, dark urine, clay-colored stools, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes).

• Smaller serious side effects may include:

· diarrhea;

· constipation;

· loss of appetite;

· dizziness;

· headache; or

· muscle spasm.

What another drugs will affect chlorthalidone?

• Till using chlorthalidone, speak your doctor if you regularly use another medicines that create you sleepy (such as cool or allergy medication, sedatives, narcotic pain medication, sleeping pills, muscle relaxers, and medication for seizures, depression, or anxiety). They can add to sleepiness caused by chlorthalidone.

· lithium;

· digoxin (Lanoxin);

· steroids (prednisone and others);

· another blood pressure medications; or

· insulin or diabetes medication taken by mouth.
