BENZODIAZEPINES AND H2-RECEPTOR ANTAGONISTS

The serum levels of adinazolam, alprazolam, chlordiazepoxide, clobazam, clorazepate, diazepam, flurazepam, nitrazepam, triazolam, zaleplon, zolpidem (and probably halazepam and prazepam) are raised by cimetidine, but normally this appears to be of little or no clinical importance, and only the occasional patient may experience an
increase in effects (sedation). Clotiazepam, lorazepam, lormetazepam, oxazepam and temazepam are not normally affected by cimetidine. Famotidine, nizatidine and ranitidine do not interact with most benzodiazepines, except possibly triazolam. The picture with midazolam is somewhat confused.
In general no clinically significant interaction occurs, but note that individual patients may rarely experience increased sedation.
