ANTACIDS AND AZOLES

The gastrointestinal absorption of ketoconazole and itraconazole capsules is markedly reduced by antacids.
Advise patients to take antacids not less than 2 to 3 hours before or after ketoconazole and not less than 1 hour before and 2 hours after itraconazole capsules. Monitor the effects to confirm that these azoles are effective. The absorption of fluconazole, itraconazole solution and posaconazole appears not to be significantly affected by antacids, so these azoles may be
