The pressor responses to dexamfetamine in 4 hypertensive patients were increased 2- to 3-fold after 6 days of
furazolidone use, and after 13 days they had increased by about 10-fold.
Furazolidone has MAO-inhibitory activity, after 5 to 10 days of use, which is about equivalent to that of the non-selective
MAOIs.
Concurrent use with
amfetamines may be expected to result in a potentially serious rise in blood pressure and should therefore be avoided.
