Fluoxetine markedly inhibits the 
metabolism (5-hydroxylation) of 
propafenone, and  
paroxetine would also be expected to behave similarly, but the 
clinical consequences 
 of this are unknown. Fluvoxamine would be expected to inhibit the 
metabolism of  
propafenone by N-dealkylation, but in most patients this is only expected to have a 
 small effect. 
 Until more is known, it would be prudent to use caution when giving fluoxetine or  
paroxetine with 
propafenone. Sertraline, citalopram and probably escitalopram 
 would not be expected to interact and an 
in vitro study supports this suggestion.
