Theoretically hypertension may occur when non-selective
MAOIs are taken with
methyldopa, although additive blood-pressure lowering effects are also a possibility. The concurrent use of antidepressant
MAOIs and
methyldopa may not be desirable because
methyldopa can sometimes cause depression.
It would seem prudent to avoid the combination wherever possible.
