You must not use linaclotide if you are allergic to it, or if you have a blockage in your stomach or intestines.
Do not give this medicine to any baby or teenager without the advice of a doctor.
Take linaclotide in the morning on an empty stomach, at least 30 minutes till your first meal. Do not crush, chew, interrupt, or open a linaclotide capsule. Swallow it intact.
Stop using linaclotide and call your doctor at once if you have severe or ongoing diarrhea, severe stomach pain, or black, bloody, or tarry stools.
Linaclotide works by increasing the secretion of chloride and water in the intestines, which can soften stools and stimulate bowel movements.
Linaclotide is used to treat chronic constipation, or chronic irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) in people who have had constipation as the main symptom.
Linaclotide may also be used for purposes not listed in this medicine guide.

FDA pregnancy category C. It is not known whether linaclotide will harm an unborn child. Speak your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant while using this medication.
It is not known whether linaclotide passes into breast milk or if it could harm a nursing child. Do not use this medicine without telling your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby.
Linaclotide must not be given to a baby younger than 6 years old. Do not give this medicine to any baby or teenager without the advice of a doctor.
Follow the directions on your prescription label. Do not take this medication in larger or less amounts or for longer than recommended.
Do not crush, chew, interrupt, or open a linaclotide capsule. Swallow it intact.

It may take up to 2 weeks till your symptoms improve. Hold using the medicine as directed. Call your doctor if your symptoms do not improve, or if they get worse while using linaclotide.
Store at room temperature away from moisture and heat.
Hold the capsules in their original container, along with the packet of moisture-absorbing preservative that comes with this medication. Hold the bottle tightly closed when not in use.
Take the missed doze as soon as you remember. Skip the missed doze if it is nearly time for your following scheduled doze. Do not take extra medication to create up the missed dose.

Overdose symptoms may include severe forms of some of the side effects listed in this medicine guide.
Follow your doctor's instructions about any restrictions on food, beverages, or activity.
Get abnormal medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficult breathing; swelling of your person, lips, tongue, or throat.
Stop using linaclotide and call your doctor at once if you have a serious side effect such as:
· severe or ongoing diarrhea;
· severe stomach pain; or
· black, bloody, or tarry stools.
Another general side effects may include:
· mild diarrhea;
· mild stomach discomfort;
· heartburn, vomiting, gas, bloating;
· headache; or
· cool symptoms such as stuffy nose, sneezing, sinus pain.
