HERBAL MEDICINES OR DIETARY SUPPLEMENTS AND WARFARIN AND OTHER ORAL ANTICOAGULANTS - DONG QUAI

Two case reports describe a very marked increase in the anticoagulant effects of warfarin when dong quai was added.
Patients taking warfarin should be warned of the potential risks of also taking dong quai. Until more information is available, dong quai should be avoided unless the effects on anticoagulation can be monitored.
