No pharmacokinetic interaction appears to occur between
ezetimibe and the
statins, but the
incidence of rhabdomyolysis may be increased on concurrent use. Note that the use of
ezetimibe and a statin results in additive lipid-lowering effects, and combination preparations are available.
Patients taking
statins should be counselled regarding myopathy (e.g. report any unexplained muscle pain, tenderness or weakness). This should be reinforced if they are also given
ezetimibe.
