Rises in
serum digoxin levels and
digoxin toxicity have been reported in neonates given
digoxin with
indometacin. The picture is less clear in adults, as there are studies reporting either no change or increased
digoxin levels. However, there seem to be no examples of a consistent interaction in practice.
In neonates,
digoxin levels should be monitored if concurrent use is necessary, and the dose reduced accordingly. In adults, bear this interaction in mind if patients are given both drugs and monitor
digoxin levels if a problem is suspected.
