Colestyramine binds to
vancomycin in the gut, possibly reducing its
efficacy.
Administration of oral
vancomycin and
colestyramine should be separated (it is usually suggested that other drugs should be given 1 hour before or 4 to 6 hours after colestyramine). Note that this combination is no longer recommended in antibiotic-associated
colitis.
