What is the most significant information I must know about clindamycin?

• You must not use this medicine if you are allergic to clindamycin or lincomycin (Bactramycin, L-Mycin, Lincocin).

• Do not take clindamycin together with erythromycin (E.E.S., EryPed, Ery-Tab, Erythrocin, Pediazole, and others).

• Till using clindamycin, speak your doctor if you have kidney malady, liver malady, an intestinal mess such as colitis or Crohn's malady, or a history of asthma, eczema, or allergic skin reaction.

• Take this medication for the full predesigned length of time. Your symptoms may improve till the infection is completely cleared. Skipping doses may also magnify your risk of further infection that is resistant to antibiotics. Clindamycin will not treat a viral infection such as the general cool or flu.

• Antibiotic medicines can reason diarrhea, which may be a sign of a new infection. If you have diarrhea that is watery or bloody, stop taking clindamycin and call your doctor. Do not use anti-diarrhea medication unless your doctor tells you to.

• To be certain this medicine is not causing deleterious effects, your blood may need to be tested often. Your kidney or liver function may also need to be tested. Visit your doctor regularly.

• If you need surgery, speak the surgeon onward of time that you are using clindamycin. You may need to stop using the medication for a short time.

What is clindamycin?

• Clindamycin is an antibiotic that fights bacteria in the body.

• Clindamycin is used to treat serious infections caused by bacteria.

• Clindamycin may also be used for purposes not listed in this medicine guide.

What must I discuss with my healthcare provider till taking clindamycin?

• You must not use this medicine if you are:

· allergic to clindamycin or lincomycin (Bactramycin, L-Mycin, Lincocin); or

· if you are also taking erythromycin (E.E.S., EryPed, Ery-Tab, Erythrocin, Pediazole, and others).

• To create certain you can safely take clindamycin, speak your doctor if you have any of these another conditions:

· colitis, Crohn's malady, or another intestinal disorder;

· kidney disease;

· liver malady; or

· a history of asthma, eczema, or allergic skin reaction.

• FDA pregnancy category B. This medicine is not expected to be deleterious to an unborn child. Speak your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant during treatment.

• Clindamycin can pass into breast milk and may harm a nursing child. Do not use this medicine without telling your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby.

How must I take clindamycin?

• Take exactly as predesigned by your doctor. Do not take in larger or less amounts or for longer than recommended. Follow the directions on your prescription label.

• Take this medication with a full glass of water to hold it from irritating your throat.

• Measure liquid medication with a particular dose-measuring spoon or medication cup, not with a regular table spoon. If you do not have a dose-measuring device, ask your pharmacist for one.

• To be certain this medicine is not causing deleterious effects, your blood may need to be tested often. Your kidney or liver function may also need to be tested. Visit your doctor regularly.

• Store at room temperature away from moisture and heat. Do not store clindamycin liquid in the refrigerator.

What happens if I miss a dose?

• Take the missed doze as soon as you remember. Skip the missed doze if it is nearly time for your following scheduled doze. Do not take extra medication to create up the missed dose.

• Search abnormal medical attention or call the Poison Help line at 1-800-222-1222.

What must I avoid while taking clindamycin?

What are the possible side effects of clindamycin?

• Get abnormal medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your person, lips, tongue, or throat.

• Stop using clindamycin and call your doctor at once if you have any of these serious side effects:

· diarrhea that is watery or bloody;

· jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes);

· urinating smaller than normal or not at all;

· fever, chills, body aches, flu symptoms, sores in your mouth and throat;

· light bruising, unusual bleeding (nose, mouth, vagina, or rectum), purple or red pinpoint spots under your skin; or

· severe skin reaction -- fever, sore throat, swelling in your person or tongue, burning in your eyes, skin pain, followed by a red or purple skin rash that spreads (especially in the person or upper body) and causes blistering and peeling.

• Smaller serious side effects may include:

· change in bowel habits (especially in older adults);

· mild nausea, vomiting, or stomach pain;

· joint pain;

· vaginal itching or discharge;

· mild rash or itching; or

· heartburn, irritation in your throat.

What another drugs will affect clindamycin?
