Four patients have shown marked rises in
serum ciclosporin levels when treated with
chloramphenicol. A small study supports these findings.
Ciclosporin levels and/or effects (e.g. on
renal function) should be monitored as a matter of routine, but it may be prudent to increase monitoring if
chloramphenicol is started or stopped. Adjust the dose of
ciclosporin as necessary. It seems doubtful that there will be enough
chloramphenicol absorbed from eye drops to interact with ciclosporin, but this needs confirmation.
