Isolated cases of hypoglycaemia have been described in patients taking glibenclamide (
glyburide) or
glipizide with
clarithromycin or
erythromycin. A study in healthy subjects found that hypoglycaemia may occur if
tolbutamide is given with
clarithromycin.
The general importance of these isolated cases is uncertain, but some caution may be warranted on concurrent use.
