Disopyramide occasionally causes hypoglycaemia, which may be severe. Isolated reports describe severe hypoglycaemia when
disopyramide was given to diabetic patients.
Patients at particular risk of hypoglycaemia are the elderly, the malnourished and diabetics. Impaired
renal function or cardiac function may also be predisposing factors. It has been suggested that blood glucose levels should be closely monitored and the
disopyramide stopped if problems arise.
