Chlorpromazine may raise blood glucose levels, particularly in daily doses of 100 mg or more, and disturb the
control of
diabetes (
incidence of hyperglycaemia is about 25%). Smaller
chlorpromazine doses of 50 to 70 mg daily do not appear to cause hyperglycaemia. Clozapine,
olanzapine and
risperidone are associated with an increased risk of glucose intolerance.
Increases in the dosage requirements of the antidiabetic should be anticipated during concurrent use. Increased blood glucose monitoring is recommended with
chlorpromazine,
clozapine,
olanzapine and
risperidone.
