AMIODARONE AND PROTEASE INHIBITORS

A rise in amiodarone levels of about 50% has been seen in a patient given indinavir. Other protease inhibitors would be expected to interact similarly.
The concurrent use of amiodarone with a protease inhibitor is generally contraindicated. However, in the UK the exception is atazanavir, and in the US, caution and increased monitoring, including taking amiodarone levels, is recom- mended with amprenavir, atazanavir, fosamprenavir, and lopinavir.
