The nephrotoxicity of
aminoglycosides appears to be potentiated by
vancomycin.
Concurrent use is therapeutically useful, but the risk of increased nephrotoxicity should be borne in mind. Therapeutic drug monitoring and regular assessment of
renal function is warranted.
Note that amiodarone has a long
half-life (25 to 100 days) so that interactions may occur for some time after amiodarone has been withdrawn.
