What is the most significant information I must know about methylphenidate?

• Take this medicine at least 30 minutes till a meal. Extended-release methylphenidate can be taken with or without food.

• The chewable tablet should be chewed till you swallow it.

• Measure liquid medication with a particular dose-measuring spoon or medication cup. If you do not have a dose-measuring device, ask your pharmacist for one.

• Shake the oral suspension (Quillivant) well just till you measure a doze.

• Do not crush, chew, or interrupt an extended-release tablet. Swallow it intact. Breaking the pill may reason too many of the drug to be released at one time.

• You may open the extended-release capsule and sprinkle the medication into a spoonful of pudding or applesauce to create swallowing easier. Swallow right away without chewing. Do not save the mixture for later use. Discard the empty capsule.

• To prevent sleep problems, take this medicine early in the day, no later than 6:00 pm.

• If you need surgery, speak the surgeon onward of time that you are using methylphenidate. You may need to stop using the medication for a short time.

• Store at room temperature away from moisture and heat.

• Hold track of the amount of medication used from every new bottle. Methylphenidate is a drug of abuse and you must be aware if anyone is using your medication improperly or without a prescription.

What happens if I miss a dose?

• Take the missed doze as soon as you remember. Skip the missed doze if it is later than 6:00 p.m. Do not take extra medication to create up the missed dose.

What happens if I overdose?

• Search abnormal medical attention or call the Poison Help line at 1-800-222-1222. An overdose of methylphenidate can be fatal.

What must I avoid while taking methylphenidate?

• Avoid drinking alcohol, especially if you take extended-release methylphenidate. Alcohol may reason the medication to be released into the bloodstream too fast.

Methylphenidate may impair your thinking or reactions. Be careful if you drive or do anything that requires you to be alert.

What are the possible side effects of methylphenidate?

• Get abnormal medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your person, lips, tongue, or throat.

• Stop taking methylphenidate and call your doctor at once if you have:

· new or worsening symptoms such as mood swings, aggression, hostility, or changes in personality or behavior;

· panic, delusion, extreme fear, hallucinations, unusual behavior, engine tics (muscle twitches);

· chest pain, quick or slow heart course, pounding heartbeats or fluttering in your chest, feeling like you might pass out

· numbness, pain, cool feeling, or skin color changes (pale, red, or blue appearance) in your fingers or toes;

· sudden numbness or weakness (especially on one side of the body), sudden severe headache, slurred speech, problems with vision or balance;

· light bruising, purple spots on your skin;

· fever, sore throat, and headache with a severe blistering, peeling, and red skin rash; or

· dangerously tall blood pressure (severe headache, blurred vision, buzzing in your ears, anxiety, confusion, chest pain, shortness of breath, uneven heartbeats, seizure).

• General side effects may include:

· feeling nervous or irritable, sleep problems (insomnia);

· loss of appetite, weight loss;

· headache, dizziness, drowsiness; or

· stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, upset stomach.
